UPICK Laborer - Seasonal in Saint Charles, Illinois at Midwest Groundcovers LLC

OBJECTIVE / ACCOUNTABILITY

The U-Pick Laborer is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the UPICK Sales Yard through plant care, order assembly, and customer service. This role ensures a clean, safe, and efficient work environment while promoting plant health and optimizing sales. The laborer works collaboratively with teammates to meet department goals and maintain high standards of customer satisfaction.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

UPICK Operational Responsibilities:

• Perform tasks to maintain plants in UPICK Sales yard including:
  1. Daily watering
  2. Deadheading/Pruning
  3. Weeding
  4. Other basic horticultural practices
  5. Report any plant health issues to UPICK Foreman
• Assist in keeping UPICK Sales yard free of weeds, debris, garbage, and potential safety hazards.

• Communicate positively, clearly and concisely with team members within & outside department. Maintain a positive attitude.

Order Assembly Responsibilities:

• Support Pulling and Loading of orders
  • Assist in order assembly for pick up orders to meet customer expectations.
  • Responsible for safe and reliable equipment operation – especially can carriers.
  • Assist in order loading.
  • Assist in plant care in order holding. Support the area and plants remain weed-free and tidy.
• Support Router & Order Preparation

1. Assist with order routing process, order printing & distribution, order pulling priority
2. Support with label printing, label inventory (in house and brand programs), printer readiness, label material ordering.

Sales and Customer Service Responsibilities:

• Provide basic Customer Service to customers:

1. Understand and communicate inventory system. Communicate order readiness to customers.
2. Enter quotes and orders.

• Understand credit policies. Apply and communicate these policies. Issue adjustments as needed.

Safety Responsibilities

• Attend regular tailgate safety training (once per month). Actively participate in following safety policies. Maintain a safe and clean work area. Strive to achieve an accident-free work record for the area each year.

EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCES

• High school degree
• Interest in growth within Green Industry
• Experience with plant care or customer service is a plus
• Bilingual ability preferred.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Commitment to customer service and teamwork.
• Effective written and oral communication skills; some Spanish proficiency is preferred.
• Strong computer skills, including proficiency in inventory and order management systems.
• Work 40+ hours per week, including some weekends.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds
