Maintenance Technician
Department: Operations/Warehouse
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Employment Status: Full-Time, Hourly
Reports To: Owners, Operations Management, or Production Manager
Position Summary
The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving equipment, facilities, and company vehicles across all Can Shed locations. This position plays a critical role in ensuring operational reliability, workplace safety, and production efficiency through preventive maintenance programs, emergency repairs, equipment installation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
The ideal candidate possesses strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems, welding, conveyors, balers, forklifts, and facility maintenance. This individual must work independently, prioritize tasks effectively, and communicate professionally with management, vendors, and team members.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance & Repair
• Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on production equipment, conveyors, balers, compactors, forklifts, and related systems.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and operational issues.
• Repair or replace defective components and verify repairs through testing and inspection.
• Respond to equipment breakdowns and emergency maintenance situations.
• Assist in installation, setup, and commissioning of new equipment and machinery.
• Collaborate with equipment manufacturers and third-party service providers on specialized repairs.
Facility Maintenance
• Perform general building maintenance including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, welding, painting, and structural repairs.
• Maintain facility systems including lighting, doors, HVAC-related components, compressed air systems, and utility infrastructure.
• Support facility expansion, remodeling, and capital improvement projects.
Fleet & Mobile Equipment
• Coordinate and perform routine maintenance on company vehicles, trailers, forklifts, and material handling equipment.
• Maintain service records and schedules for fleet assets.
• Coordinate outside repairs when specialized service is required.
Safety & Compliance
• Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and company safety policies.
• Follow and enforce Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures.
• Conduct safety inspections and identify corrective actions.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Participate in safety meetings, training programs, and emergency preparedness activities.
Maintenance Administration
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, repair logs, and service schedules.
• Develop and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for equipment operation and maintenance.
• Monitor inventory levels of maintenance supplies, spare parts, and tools.
• Recommend equipment upgrades and process improvements to reduce downtime and operating costs.
• Utilize company software and Microsoft Office applications for reporting and documentation.

Cross-Training Requirements
• Develop a working knowledge of all warehouse production processes and equipment.
• Crosstrain with warehouse personnel to understand operational workflows and equipment usage.
• Provide equipment operation guidance and basic maintenance training to staff as needed.

Qualifications
Required
• Minimum 18 years of age.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
• Minimum 3 years of industrial, manufacturing, warehouse, or maintenance experience.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, electrical diagrams, and schematics.
• Experience using hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and precision measuring devices.
• Working knowledge of:
o Electrical systems and 3-phase power
o Hydraulics and pneumatics
o Mechanical power transmission systems
o Welding and fabrication
o Conveyor systems and balers
• Computer proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Preferred
• Associate degree in Industrial Maintenance, Electrical Technology, Mechanical Technology, or related field.
• Industrial Maintenance Certification.
• Forklift certification.
• Experience with Harris balers and wire-tie systems.
• Experience in recycling, manufacturing, or material handling operations.

Physical Requirements
The employee must be able to:
• Frequently stand, walk, bend, climb, kneel, crouch, and reach.
• Work in warehouse, outdoor, and industrial environments.
• Lift, push, pull, and carry up to 75 pounds.
• Work at heights, in confined spaces, and around moving equipment when required.
• Use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
• Distinguish colors, read gauges, and hear alarms or equipment sounds necessary for safe operation.

Schedule Expectations
• Standard operating hours are Monday through Friday.
• Minimum expectation of 40 hours per week.
• Overtime may be required based on operational needs.
