Overview

Under supervision of an SDSU Faculty member, this position is intended to provided mentored advanced training to enhance professional skills and research independence in the Post Doc's academic discipline.

Examples of Post Doc responsibilities include: assisting in data collection, management, analysis and dissemination; conducting highly specialized and advanced experiments; designing research protocols; summarizing research findings; mentoring undergraduate/graduate students; preparing manuscripts, attending conferences and presenting at conferences; Work may be performed in the field or in a laboratory setting.



Responsibilities

Research 50%

  • Design and conduct biological investigations
  • Prepare grant applications and manuscripts for peer-review
  • Interpret data in context of research field

Lab Management 30%

  • Mentor and train students and junior staff members
  • Attend departmental meetings

Administration 20%

  • Contribute to grant progress reports



Qualifications

Minimum Education

  • A doctoral degree in an appropriate field
  • 0-5 years of relevant experience
Core Knowledge and Abilities
  • Research experiences in Biology.
  • Best practices in terms of laboratory safety compliance.
  • Best practices in terms of scientific data documentation and reporting.

Project Specific Knowledge and Abilities

  • Basic skills
  • Basic skills in rodent models of disease.
  • Experience with standard statistical analyses of data.
  • Experience with scientific data documentation and reporting
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SPECIAL SKILLS
  • Ph.D in Biology
  • Experience managing a Biology research lab with the mouse model for experiments.
  • Experience in cancer research is an asset.
