The Job
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced family law attorney who is ready to combine legal practice with leadership and make a meaningful impact within a growing Firm. The Supervising Attorney will maintain a reduced caseload while supervising, mentoring, and developing attorneys and legal support employees within the Firm’s Family Law team. In addition to providing strategic guidance on complex matters, this role is responsible for promoting efficient case progression, monitoring team performance and KPI achievement, addressing performance concerns, and maintaining high standards of legal advocacy and client service. This position requires exceptional legal judgment, strong leadership and communication skills, and the ability to provide clear direction, accountability, and support while handling sensitive and often emotional matters with professionalism and empathy.
Compensation: $115,000-$150,000 + Bonus
Key Responsibilities
Manage a reduced caseload of family law matters, including divorce, child custody, child support, alimony, and equitable distribution, while balancing supervisory and administrative responsibilities.Represent clients in court hearings, mediations, depositions, settlement negotiations, and other family law proceedings.Develop case strategies, draft and review legal documents, and provide strategic guidance on complex, high-value, or high-conflict matters.Supervise, coach, mentor, and develop attorneys, Case Managers, and legal support employees.Provide guidance to legal employees regarding case strategy, case progression, risk management, and effective client representation.Monitor legal team performance, workloads, case progression, deadlines, and resource allocation to promote accountability and efficient case handling.Monitor legal employees’ progress toward established KPI targets and hold employees accountable for meeting performance expectations.Conduct regular one-on-one meetings and formal performance evaluations, providing timely, constructive, and documented feedback.Identify and address performance concerns through coaching, performance improvement plans, and corrective or disciplinary conversations in coordination with Firm leadership and Human Resources, as appropriate.Support the onboarding, training, professional development, and advancement of legal employees while fostering a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing team.Ensure compliance with applicable laws, court rules, ethical requirements, Firm policies and procedures, and established client service standards.Collaborate with the Managing Attorney and Firm leadership regarding team performance, staffing and workload needs, significant case risks, process improvements, and departmental goals.Other duties as assigned.Required Qualifications
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.Active license and good standing with the North Carolina state bar.5+ years of family law experience and courtroom experience required.Strong knowledge of family law procedures and local court rules.Experience with mediation and alternative dispute resolution.Prior experience supervising, coaching, and evaluating attorneys, Case Managers, or legal support employees required. Demonstrated ability to mentor, develop, and lead legal teams. Strong organizational, delegation, and case management skills. Proven ability to manage complex litigation matters and provide strategic legal guidance.Familiarity with legal practice management software.Primary Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Frequent travel to courthouses for hearings, motions, trials, usually within Mecklenburg County or nearby counties.Occasional travel to mediators or law offices for mediations and depositions.The Perks
