Job Description
The Franciscan Renewal Center is a nonprofit Catholic retreat center and home to Our Lady of the Angels Church, located in Paradise Valley. Founded in 1951 by the Order of Friars Minor, we seek to follow in the footsteps of Saints Francis and Clare of Assisi with our commitment to our mission of renewing lives through spiritual growth, healing and transformation, and service to others. The FRC staff and volunteers are passionate about our shared work that ultimately provides a peaceful and welcoming experience for all who come here.
We serve our mission by providing:
• Retreats, meeting and conference space for faith-based and nonprofit organizations
• Joyful worship with Franciscan friars at Our Lady of the Angels Church, and additional support to our dynamic faith community with faith formation and spiritual education
• Service and outreach programs for the poor and vulnerable
• Counseling, spiritual direction, and support groups
The Therapy, Support & Counseling Ministry offers counseling and therapy services to adults ages 18 and older, regardless of their affiliation with the church or retreat center. Services are provided by licensed professionals who generously volunteer their expertise through individual, couples, and family therapy, as well as support groups. The ministry is seeking a part-time Director to serve as the administrator, coordinating services, providing clinical oversight for volunteer licensed therapy staff, and maintaining collaborative relationships with the Diocese and other local partner organizations.
The Counseling Director is a part-time role, approximately 20 hours per week, and required to be on-site for designated meetings.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Responsible for the oversight and management of the volunteer Therapy, Support, and Counseling Ministry
o Interview and approve volunteer counselors and office staff
o Supervise interns
o Provide therapy on an as-needed emergency basis
o Maintain therapy records in accordance with State of Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners
o Oversee quality of professional psychotherapy and support groups
• Provide expert assessment and decision-making of client therapeutic issues
• Facilitate support groups as needed
• Collaborate with FRC staff
o Represent Therapy, Support, and Counseling Ministry on Discover the Vision events
• Proactively promote the Therapy, Support, and Counseling Ministry to the FRC community and the community at large
• Create continuing education events for the professional psychotherapy community
• Proactively stay up to date regarding statutes pertaining to licensed psychotherapy in the State of Arizona and around the country relative to telehealth
QUALIFICATIONS
• Minimum of Master’s in Behavioral Health Field (Social Work, Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology)
• State of Arizona License in Clinical Social Work, Professional Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Psychology
• Approved Clinical Supervisor
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
• Strong and effective interpersonal, relational and communication skills
• Ability to effectively demonstrate compassion in actions and communication; ability to accompany people where they are
• Self-directed, able to complete responsibilities independently with minimal supervision
• Ability and willingness to work collaboratively within the Casa organization, the Diocese and with other related local efforts
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks timely and efficiently
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Outlook
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Commitment to the mission and values of the FRC
• Ability to maintain Safe Environment Training protocols
• This position is approximately 20 hours per week. Most responsibilities can be completed remotely, however, must be on-site for meetings and monthly Discover the Vision Tour
• Working knowledge of Franciscan spirituality along with willingness to learn more
