Account Director - Promotional Medical Education

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Account Director - Promotional Medical Education based in United States.

This is a senior account leadership opportunity within a science-driven medical communications environment supporting pharmaceutical, biotech, and medical device clients.
You will oversee the strategic and day-to-day management of assigned accounts while guiding teams responsible for delivering high-quality medical education programs.
The role combines client leadership, people management, financial oversight, business development, and cross-functional collaboration.
You will build trusted relationships with clients, key faculty, medical associations, and other healthcare stakeholders while translating scientific and business objectives into effective programs.
You will have the opportunity to shape new initiatives, identify growth opportunities, and contribute innovative ideas that strengthen existing client partnerships.

Accountabilities
  • Manage the day-to-day activities and strategic priorities for an assigned portfolio of client business, ensuring programs are delivered effectively and aligned with client objectives.
  • Establish and maintain strong, trusted relationships with clients, key stakeholders, faculty, medical associations, and relevant healthcare institutions.
  • Maintain consistent written and verbal communication with clients and internal account teams, proactively addressing concerns, resolving issues, and ensuring expectations are met or exceeded.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of client organizations, products, disease states, scientific landscapes, and marketing objectives to provide informed strategic guidance.
  • Oversee project budgets, financial monitoring, reconciliations, forecasts, and other financial aspects of assigned accounts.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities for organic account growth by developing proposals, creating new business presentations, presenting innovative concepts, and participating in client meetings.
  • Lead brainstorming sessions and support the development and launch of new programs and initiatives.
  • Hire, train, coach, and mentor account management professionals while establishing individualized development plans, providing ongoing feedback, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Assign and manage team workloads, ensuring appropriate staffing, prioritization, and resource allocation across projects.
  • Partner with department leaders to identify, coordinate, and manage internal and external resources required for successful program execution.
  • Facilitate effective communication and collaboration across departments and resolve conflicts involving teams, projects, or individual contributors.
  • Prepare and communicate updates to senior leadership regarding account activity, business development opportunities, financial performance, forecasts, and potential risks.
  • Participate in or lead internal team meetings, ensuring alignment on priorities, responsibilities, timelines, and client commitments.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree required; an advanced degree in science, business, or a related discipline is preferred.
  • 7+ years of relevant professional experience, including management responsibilities and involvement in interdisciplinary teams within scientific marketing, communications, healthcare, or a related environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and developing teams, with the ability to provide clear direction, constructive feedback, coaching, and career development support.
  • Experience in promotional medical education, medical communications, medical affairs, healthcare advertising, or a comparable scientific communications environment is highly relevant.
  • Experience within a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, managed care, hospital, medical communications agency, or healthcare advertising setting is preferred.
  • Strong ability to quickly understand, retain, and communicate complex scientific and technical concepts.
  • Demonstrated client relationship management skills, with the ability to build credibility and communicate effectively with senior stakeholders and subject-matter experts.
  • Proven business development capabilities, including proposal development, presentation creation, opportunity identification, and expansion of existing client relationships.
  • Strong financial and organizational skills, including experience overseeing budgets, project resources, workloads, and competing priorities.
  • Excellent written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet-based tools, and other standard business applications.
  • Strong problem-solving, conflict-resolution, prioritization, and decision-making abilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across departments while also working independently in a flexible, remote environment.
