Are you an experienced accounting professional who has mastered the transactional basics and is ready for a clear track toward upward career mobility? ACA International is seeking a motivated, Staff Accountant to take ownership of end-to-end accounting operations across our nonprofit ecosystem.
Our ecosystem includes several corporations, funds, and 16 departments. While that might sound like a lot of moving parts on paper, don't let the numbers intimidate you! We are looking for someone who already possesses a strong foundational knowledge of full-cycle accounting and is eager to scale those skills. This is a role you can truly grow into. Reporting directly to the VP of Finance, you will handle the daily financial baseline while being actively mentored to step into advanced general ledger ownership, fund tracking, and executive-level financial reporting.
What You'll Do (Primary Responsibilities)
- General Ledger Ownership & Reporting: Execute standard month-end closures, post journal entries (including prepaids/asset amortization), handle complex intercompany balancing, and prepare balance sheets and capital cash flow statements directly for the VP of Finance.
- Full-Cycle Accounts Receivable: Manage member statements, process check/credit card/wire payments, handle credit card chargebacks, and track past-due collections across multiple entities.
- Full-Cycle Accounts Payable: Manage vendor onboarding (W-9/1099 compliance), process automated clearing house (ACH) and check runs, secure department approvals, and audit invoices for proper sales/use tax compliance.
- Cash Management & Optimization: Perform weekly bank depository account reconciliations, manage petty cash systems, and handle banking verification tasks.
- Budget & Audit Support: Partner with the VP of Finance and department heads to gather data and build spreadsheets for the annual nonprofit budget preparation and scheduled auditing cycles.
What You Bring to the Table (Requirements)
- Experience: Minimum of 2+ years of professional, hands-on accounting experience required. You must already understand full-cycle A/P, A/R, and basic ledger adjustments. Prior experience in a nonprofit setting, trade association, or multi-entity ecosystem is a major plus.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is strongly preferred (or an Associate’s degree combined with exceptional, proven full-charge bookkeeping experience).
- Software Toolkit: Hands-on professional proficiency with Sage and QuickBooks systems is required, along with advanced MS Excel skills and precise 10-key data entry speed.
- Core Skills: Impeccable attention to detail, strong problem-solving abilities, top-tier communication skills for member/vendor interactions, and an absolute commitment to handling confidential payroll and financial records with discretion.
- Hybrid Readiness: The ability to work seamlessly and productively while split between a remote home office and a few structured days in our Savage location.
