Description:
POSITION SUMMARY

Performs progressively responsible facility and plants maintenance duties, which includes cleaning and minor repairs of building systems, cleaning restrooms, trash pick-up, sludge tank cleaning, lime delivery, etc. May function as a lead worker of a small crew.

In accordance with Article 24 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Fort Lauderdale and Teamsters Local Union 769, for posting purposes this open-competitive job posting shall be considered as a simultaneous internal and external posting (it is open to both internal City employees and external applicants).

Note: This position shall remain open until a sufficient number of qualified applications have been received.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation. The list of essential functions, as outlined herein, is intended to be representative of the tasks performed within this classification.   • Serves as lead worker over a small crew of lower ranking municipal maintenance workers in the performance of a variety of maintenance tasks
  • Performs related tasks in the general maintenance of municipal facilities, including mopping and sweeping floors, cleaning restrooms and other related tasks
  • Orders cleaning supplies, paper products, and hand sanitizers, and refilling supplies
  • Performs semi-skilled related tasks in the general maintenance of municipal facilities
  • Removes plant's grit, trash, and rags to the landfill for disposal
  • May operate a jet cleaning truck Complies with safety regulations and standard operating procedures
  • Works around high voltage, rotating equipment and various hazardous chemicals.
  • May be responsible for cleaning and maintenance of parking lots and grounds maintenance tasks in an assigned area
  • May take down, move and erect benches, seats and chair or equipment as needed
  • May repair breaks and holes in street surfaces using whatever materials are appropriate
  • May do mowing and related activities
  • May operate heavy equipment, such as, front loader, VAC truck, etc.
  • Performs related work as required
JOB REQUIREMENTS, PREFERENCES & WORK ENVIRONMENT
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  1. High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
  2. Two (2) or more years of related experience.
  3. Possess or be able to obtain a valid State of Florida driver's license within 30 days after hire.
  4. PHYSICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The position involves medium physical demands, such as exerting up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
