Job Description

VP, Finance

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a VP, Finance based in the United States.

This is a senior finance leadership role at the heart of a fast-scaling, clinical-stage biotech organization focused on building a strong, scalable financial foundation to support scientific innovation.
You will serve as the operational right hand to the CFO, owning the day-to-day finance function while helping shape the systems, controls, and processes that enable growth.
The role combines hands-on controllership with strategic leadership across accounting, reporting, audit, treasury, and compliance in a highly regulated environment.
You will oversee financial accuracy and integrity across all reporting cycles, ensuring GAAP compliance and readiness for scale.
In addition to core finance operations, you will help modernize finance systems and introduce tools and automation to improve efficiency and insight.
This is a high-ownership role requiring both executional rigor and leadership capability in a mission-driven, high-growth environment.

Accountabilities:
  • Own end-to-end accounting operations, including month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and full GAAP compliance.
  • Oversee general ledger management, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial consolidations across the organization.
  • Lead technical accounting areas including R&D accruals, clinical trial expenses, stock-based compensation, leases, revenue recognition, and financing transactions.
  • Serve as primary liaison for external auditors and lead annual audit processes from planning through final issuance.
  • Manage treasury operations including cash positioning, forecasting, banking relationships, wire approvals, and liquidity visibility.
  • Build and maintain strong internal controls, financial reporting frameworks, and policies aligned with GAAP and SOX-readiness standards.
  • Oversee tax compliance and coordination with external advisors for federal, state, and local filings, including R&D credits.
  • Drive financial systems strategy, including ERP and finance tools, while modernizing infrastructure and integrating automation and AI where appropriate.
  • Lead and develop a high-performing finance team, fostering a culture of accountability, rigor, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner closely with the CFO and executive leadership to deliver accurate financial insights for decision-making and board reporting.
Requirements:
  • 12+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including deep controllership responsibilities in high-growth environments.
  • At least 3+ years in senior finance leadership roles within biotech, pharma, or similarly complex regulated industries.
  • Strong technical accounting expertise with deep US GAAP knowledge and hands-on experience managing audits and internal controls.
  • Proven track record owning full month-end close processes and leading external audits from planning to completion.
  • CPA qualification required, with Big Four or equivalent public accounting background strongly preferred.
  • Experience building and scaling financial systems, processes, and controls in fast-paced environments.
  • Strong treasury and cash management experience with hands-on operational involvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead lean finance teams while balancing both strategic leadership and executional contribution.
  • Strong business judgment, high integrity, and ability to operate as a trusted partner to executive leadership.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to bring structure and clarity in complex, ambiguous environments.
Benefits:
  • Competitive annual compensation ranging from $320,000–$360,000 USD.
  • Equity opportunities as part of a long-term incentive package.
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage with high employer contribution.
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan with company match.
  • Flexible paid time off policy to support work-life balance.
  • Paid parental leave and adoption assistance programs.
  • Opportunity to join a well-funded, high-growth biotech organization advancing innovative drug discovery.
  • Exposure to cutting-edge scientific and operational environments with significant leadership impact.
