About This Position

Zep is building the long-term memory layer for the AI application stack. We enable developers to build feature-rich, personalized products that wow their users, whether business or consumer. We have a large and active open-source community and recently launched our cloud service.

Zep is funded by YC, Engineering Capital, and angels such as Guillermo Rauch (Vercel).

About the Role

We are looking for a dynamic and versatile Chief of Staff to join our team. You will be our first non-engineering hire and the right-hand person to Daniel, our founder and CEO. You will own and support many key business functions, including finance, HR, business operations, and investor relations. You will also take on special projects and help coordinate the CEO's daily activities. This role offers an opportunity to grow into a senior management position as the company scales.

Key Responsibilities

Business Operations:

  • Own the company's rhythm of business. Work closely with the CEO and team to identify and implement processes and policies appropriate for our stage of growth. You will own many of these processes.
  • Be the keeper of company objectives and plans. You will work closely with the CEO and team to identify these goals and to develop plans to achieve them. You will own the processes for reviewing the achievement of these objectives and plans.

Financial Management:

  • Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
  • Manage financial records, payroll, and vendor relationships.

Human Resources:

  • Manage recruitment, onboarding, and employee relations.
  • Develop and implement HR policies and procedures appropriate for our company's life stage.

Investor Relations:

  • Support the CEO in managing investor communications and relationships.
  • Prepare and coordinate investor updates and reports.

Executive Support:

  • Assist the CEO with scheduling, meeting preparation, and follow-ups.

Special Projects:

  • Lead and execute special projects that are critical to the company's success.
  • Collaborate with the team to drive project completion and outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Operations, or a related field. MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • 2+ years in a management consulting role.
  • 3+ years of experience in business operations, finance, or executive support roles.
  • Experience in a startup environment is highly desirable.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in financial management and HR practices.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • High level of adaptability and problem-solving skills.

Interview Process

Three interviews with the company. Two will be with Daniel, the company's founder and CEO. The last will be with the team.
