The Facilities Technician role plays an integral part in our ability to deliver on operational expectations, in support of delivering ministry with excellence.

SUMMARY:

The Facilities Technician is responsible for performing preventive and general maintenance on buildings and building systems, furniture, fixtures, and equipment.

PRIMARY DUTIES (list order does not signify level of importance):

Responds promptly and politely to requests for repair and/or maintenance service. Inspects interior and exterior of each building on a weekly basis, documenting areas in need of repair. Makes needed repairs to buildings, arranging for appropriate outside repair services, as necessary.Performs scheduled and periodic inspections of building systems, documenting findings, correcting problems when possible and arranging for external repair and maintenance services when necessary. Operates HVAC systems, adjusting settings to achieve optimal room temperature when buildings are occupied and maximum energy savings when they are not.Operates security equipment, ensuring buildings are locked and secured when not occupied.Corrects plumbing problems such as clogged toilets and drains and leaking faucets, arranging for outside plumbing services when necessary. Assists and supports contractors designated to perform installation, repair and/or maintenance service of furniture, fixtures, and equipment. Performs minor carpentry and drywall repair.Sands and re-stains wood doors and wood trims and paints areas in need. Ensures furniture and fixtures are safe for use, e.g., tightening screws on loose pews and sanctuary seats, shoring up handrails and replacing broken chairs. Replaces light bulbs, toilet seats, door plates, handles and stops, window handles, Maintains inventory of regularly used items. Verifies all tools and equipment are properly accounted for and put away after use. Adheres to established safety and security policies and procedures.Promptly reports maintenance problems, safety hazards, accidents, and injuries to supervisor. Creates and coordinates serving opportunities for volunteers, providing direction and supplies, and supervising the work. May be asked to teach classes related to the work performed. Accurately documents work performed and equipment parts/components consumed on tickets and/or work orders.Attends staff meetings as required.Provides budget input to supervisor.Meets regularly with the Facilities Manager, providing reports as requested.Performs other related duties as required or assigned.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Education, training, or experience sufficient to demonstrate the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, OR ABILITIES:

Working knowledge of the principles, practices, supplies and equipment used to maintain facilities.Working knowledge of building systems including, but not limited to, plumbing, electrical and HVAC.Knowledge and understanding of federal, state, and local code pertaining to commercial buildings, systems, and equipment. Possesses general maintenance skills in carpentry, plumbing, and electrical. Skilled in operating HVAC systems and controls.Skilled in using technology to accept and document work orders/tickets and maintain essential records.Demonstrated ability to service multiple facilities, ensuring they are safe, clean, secure, and operating properly. Ability to operate scissor lift. Ability to work weekends, holidays, and extended periods of time as required. Ability to promptly respond to on-site emergency situations. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
