The City of Chesapeake Fire Department is seeking a skilled Systems Analyst to support and enhance the technology that helps keep our community safe. In this role, you’ll work behind the scenes to ensure critical systems run smoothly, efficiently, and securely while supporting the dedicated professionals who rely on them every day.
The City of Chesapeake Fire Department is seeking a skilled Systems Analyst to support and enhance the technology that helps keep our community safe. In this role, you’ll work behind the scenes to ensure critical systems run smoothly, efficiently, and securely while supporting the dedicated professionals who rely on them every day.
This position plays a key role in analyzing, designing, and supporting complex information systems, with opportunities to lead projects and guide others.
What You’ll Do
- Analyze user needs and recommend technology solutions to improve or enhance systems
- Design, develop, test, and implement new applications and system upgrades
- Modify existing systems to improve efficiency, reduce complexity, and support operations
- Provide technical support, troubleshooting, and guidance to system users
- Administer systems and networks, including managing user access and security
- Develop reports and data solutions to meet operational needs
- Monitor technology trends and recommend improvements, policies, and procedures
- Maintain system documentation, inventories, and related records
- Assist with budgeting, procurement, and vendor coordination for hardware and software
- Lead or support projects, including planning, implementation, and progress reporting
- Provide training and support to end users and staff
- Participate in meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities

Required Qualifications:
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENT: Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s
degree in computer science or a closely related field.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of two years of full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Requires a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards. Information Technology based positions must meet requirements specified in Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) policy for access to the Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN).
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies. Emergency operations support work and work locations may be outside of normal job duties.
