The David C. Frederick Honors College Office of National Scholarships and Post-Graduation Success at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a fellowships advisor to join our world-leading team in supporting our most talented students and alumni in competing for national fellowships in STEM disciplines. The David C. Frederick Honors College Office of National Fellowships is one of the most successful fellowships offices at any public research university: the University of Pittsburgh is a Top Fulbright Producer; and in the last five years students supported by this office have received over 300 awards, including Rhodes, Churchill, Marshall and Goldwater. The successful candidate will become the primary fellowships advisor for STEM-focused awards including Goldwater, Hertz, Churchill, SMART, DAAD RISE, and NSF REU’s and will develop and curate resources to those pursuing external STEM research opportunities ; Candidate will work with FHC staff and the broader Pitt faculty and staff in administering nomination and endorsement processes across campus for all students and recent alumni. We seek a highly motivated and organized individual possessing a strong understanding of competitive fellowships, a strong commitment to holistic student development, and serving students from diverse backgrounds. Our office collaborates with and complements the work of our faculty, staff, and alumni partners in the FHC and across the university, educating toward empowering students with the knowledge of the breadth of available resources and opportunities.
Utilizes expert-level advising knowledge, theory, and experience to serve as an academic liaison for students to identify academic and career goals, select appropriate courses, and plan for degree attainment. Leads the facilitation and implementation of University-sponsored activities. Manages large, complex projects.
Essential Functions
Fellowship Advising & Application Management Oversee end-to-end application and endorsement processes for STEM fellowships (Goldwater, Churchill, NSF GRFP, and others), including database management, material submissions to national review committees, and student/alumni inquiries.
Student Coaching & Mentorship Advise and mentor undergraduate, graduate, and alumni populations one-on-one and in group settings on application materials (personal statements, research statements, grant proposals), professional development (resumes, cover letters, interview prep), and post-graduation success.
Programming & Events Design, coordinate, and deliver workshops, information sessions, outreach events, mock interviews, and selection committee meetings that promote fellowship participation among STEM students and alumni.
Stakeholder Engagement & Partnerships Serve as primary liaison to STEM departments, undergraduate research offices, faculty, associate deans, and campus organizations; cultivate relationships that ensure broad access to fellowship opportunities.
Communications & Marketing Collaborate with university communications teams to produce and maintain web content, newsletters, social media, brochures, and other promotional materials related to fellowships and ONS programming.
Professional Development & National Engagement Stay current on national and international fellowship opportunities and actively participate in the profession through NAFA membership, conferences, and collaboration with peer institutions and foundations.
Physical Effort
Work is primarily sedentary in nature. Requires the ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and via video conference. Occasional standing, walking, and light lifting of materials (up to 20 lbs.) may be required in connection with events, workshops, and outreach activities. Some local travel between campus buildings and occasional travel to off-campus conferences or meetings may be required.

Hiring Range: $67,000-$72,000
