About This Position
The Medical Receptionist is responsible for managing front desk operations, ensuring a smooth and efficient patient experience, and maintaining accurate patient records in a fast-paced primary care environment. This role requires strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a working knowledge of medical terminology, insurance processes, and electronic health record systems.
The ideal candidate is professional, organized, patient-focused, and able to multitask effectively while supporting providers, staff, and patients.
Key ResponsibilitiesFront Desk & Patient ExperienceGreet patients and visitors in a professional, friendly, and welcoming manner.
Manage patient check-in and check-out processes efficiently.
Maintain patient flow and communicate delays or issues appropriately.
Schedule appointments and manage provider calendars accurately.
Confirm appointments and update demographic and insurance information as needed.
Respond to patient inquiries regarding appointments, services, and office procedures.
Verify insurance eligibility and coverage prior to patient visits.
Collect co-pays, deductibles, and outstanding balances in accordance with company policy.
Process payments and issue receipts while maintaining HIPAA compliance.
Assist with medical collections in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.
Maintain patient records by reviewing, verifying, and ensuring documentation accuracy.
Assist with medical coding tasks using ICD-10 standards as applicable.
Scan, upload, and manage patient documentation within the electronic health record system.
Use electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Meditech, eClinicalWorks, or similar platforms for data entry and retrieval.
Maintain accuracy and confidentiality of all patient information.
Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to ensure smooth front desk operations.
Maintain strict confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, organizational policies, and regulatory requirements.
Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work environment.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Prior experience in a medical office, healthcare administration, or front desk role preferred.
Proficiency in medical terminology and familiarity with ICD-10 coding.
Experience using electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic, Meditech, eClinicalWorks, or similar.
Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to multitask, stay organized, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Experience with insurance verification, patient billing, and medical collections is a plus.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
