About This Position
About Us
OIC of South Florida is a workforce development organization with a long-standing legacy of helping youth and adults remove barriers, build confidence, gain skills, and access career pathways that lead to economic mobility. Through our Youth & Family Services Division, we strengthen the next generation of the workforce by combining academic enrichment, STEAM exposure, employability skills, and wraparound guidance—so students can succeed in school and thrive beyond it.
About the Role
STEAMWORKS is built for “students of promise”—teens who are capable, but need a boost to strengthen foundational skills, regain momentum, and connect learning to real opportunity. As our Academic Support Specialist, you will help students move from “I’m trying” to “I’ve got this.” Your instruction supports students’ confidence and performance in ELA and Math, and directly impacts readiness for STEAM projects, credentials, and future work-based learning experiences (including internships).
Key Responsibilities
• Provide small-group academic instruction and tutoring in ELA and Math
• Support homework completion, study skills, and test readiness
• Reinforce literacy, numeracy, and problem-solving foundations
• Monitor student progress and collaborate with program staff
• Maintain accurate attendance and academic documentation
• Foster a structured, positive learning environment
• Support afterschool program flow and student supervision
What Success Looks Like
• Students demonstrate improved confidence and academic skills
• Strong attendance, engagement, and learning habits
• Increased readiness for STEAM learning activities
• Clear documentation supporting student progress
Qualifications/Experience:
Required
• Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field (or equivalent experience)
• Experience tutoring or teaching high school students
• Strong ELA and Math instructional skills
• Ability to manage small groups and maintain structured learning spaces
Preferred
• Teaching certification
• Experience with academic interventions or test prep
• STEAM/STEM familiarity
• Workforce or youth development experience
• Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Creole) a plus
Additional Requirements
• Background screening clearance
• Reliable transportation to program sites
Competitive Benefits Package offered:
Available medical, dental and vision coverage. Employer-paid benefits include STD, LTD, ADD/Life; 403-B retirement/investment savings plan contribution.
