Manager, Industry Engagement & Corporate Training, Biotechnology - South Campus

PRIMARY FUNCTION: The Manager, Corporate Training & Industry Partnerships serves as a primarily externally-facing representative for the San Jacinto College Center for Biotechnology. This role drives new business development, builds and maintains strategic relationships with biomanufacturing and bioprocessing organizations, and manages the full lifecycle of corporate and incumbent-worker training programs — from opportunity sourcing and needs assessment through customized course development, contract execution, and successful delivery. The position ensures training programs align with current industry needs, and San Jacinto College workforce goals.

Essential Job Functions:

1. New business development and opportunity sourcing

  • Proactively identifies, qualifies, and pursues corporate training opportunities in biomanufacturing, bioprocessing, and related areas.
  • Conducts industry outreach, client site visits, needs assessments, and focus groups to inform course offerings.
  • Develops tailored proposals, pricing recommendations, and customized training solutions.
  • Collaborates with leadership and team members on grant-supported training initiatives.

2. External industry relationship management

  • Builds and maintains strategic partnerships with biomanufacturing organizations, including training clients and industry stakeholders.
  • May represent the Center at industry conferences, advisory committees, networking events, and stakeholder meetings.
  • Serves as the primary liaison for training clients throughout the engagement lifecycle, ensuring high satisfaction and repeat business.
  • In collaboration with faculty, supports student successes (e.g internships and/or job placements) with industry partners.

3. Corporate training program development and coordination

  • Actively maintains up-to-date knowledge of courses, curriculum and labs available at the Center for Biotechnology.
  • Ensures all resources are prepared including training materials, course syllabi, learning objectives, laboratory exercises, and consumables in collaboration with program director, instructors, and the Biomanufacturing Lab Manager.
  • Monitors implementation, assesses progress, and highlights areas of concern for leadership.
  • Collaborates with other SJC departments to develop marketing collateral and training program catalog.

4. Contract management and program execution

  • Prepares training contracts, statements of work, pricing agreements, and service-level expectations.
  • Coordinates course scheduling, student registration, instructor assignments, facility/lab reservations, and logistics.
  • Tracks invoicing, revenue, and financial compliance for training programs.

5. Course delivery support and quality assurance

  • Conducts observations, collects evaluations from clients/instructors/students, and analyzes feedback to provide continuous improvement of courses.
  • Provides reports and actionable recommendations to improve training effectiveness and client outcomes.
  • May facilitate or support evening/weekend/off-campus corporate training sessions as needed.

6. Internal collaboration, reporting, and program growth

  • Collaborates closely with the Biomanufacturing Lab Manager, Program Director(s), administrative team, and other Center staff.
  • Prepares progress reports, enrollment/contact hour metrics, and contributes to strategic growth plans for corporate training.
  • Leads special projects and programs that impact the overall success of the Center for Biotechnology including but not limited to key strategic initiatives, team culture initiatives and process improvements.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to demonstrate the College’s values and work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of biopharmaceutical production operations, upstream/downstream processing, and biomanufacturing equipment.
  • Strong business development, sales, and contract development skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, presentation, and professional communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Ability to build trusted relationships with industry leaders and stakeholders.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, Planner).
  • Good project management, time management, and organizational skills with high attention to detail.
  • Ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours.
  • Ability to problem-solve and make decisions in a changing environment.
  • Ability to work under limited supervision, multi-task and prioritize appropriately.
  • Willingness to travel regionally/nationally as needed.

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, business or closely related field.
  • Associate degree in related technical field and five years of experience in a related technical field may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.

Preferred Education:

  • Degree in biotechnology industry related area, or
  • Additional training or degree in bioprocessing or biomanufacturing related area.

Required Experience:

  • 3–5 years of combined experience in biomanufacturing/bioprocessing industry operations and/or training/workforce development.
  • Proven track record in business development, client relationship management, contract development and/or corporate training sales.

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience developing and delivering technical training programs.

Preferred Licenses/Certifications:

  • Relevant industry certifications (e.g., ISPE, PDA, Process Technology, or biomanufacturing-related credentials) or project management certification a plus.

NOTE: This position has limited opportunity for remote work arrangements with appropriate approvals and in accordance with College policies, procedures, and operational needs. Regular on-site presence is required.

Salary Grade: 118

Salary is based on the Board-approved salary schedule for the current fiscal year. See Salary Schedule
