SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM, with a one-hour unpaid lunch break.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Mercer County Department of Human Resources is seeking a motivated and organized professional to support employee engagement initiatives, staff development programs, and workforce development activities across Mercer County. This position works closely with other members of the Human Resources team to assist with professional development programming, internship initiatives, and employee engagement efforts that enhance the employee experience across Mercer County departments.
The role requires strong organizational and time-management skills, the ability to coordinate multiple initiatives, and professionalism when working with employees, leadership, educational partners, and training providers. The successful candidate must be able to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and represent Mercer County in a professional manner when coordinating programs and initiatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Staff Development & Professional Learning
- Assist with the design, coordination, and administration of Mercer County's staff development and professional learning programs.
- Coordinate on-site professional development opportunities with educational institutions and training providers.
- Serve as liaison with the Mercer County Library System to coordinate employee training programs and promote available learning opportunities.
- Manage tuition reimbursement program administration, including application tracking and documentation.
- Coordinate conference and seminar requests submitted by County employees.
- Organize departmental training requests and maintain records of professional development participation.
- Assist in planning and coordinating Mercer County's annual “Back to School” Continuing Education Fair for employees.
- Develop and maintain tracking systems to measure participation, program outcomes, and return on investment for staff development initiatives.
Employee Engagement Initiatives
- Assist with the coordination and planning of Mercer County employee engagement initiatives and events.
- Collaborate with Human Resources staff to support employee recognition programs and engagement activities.
- Participate in planning sessions with County leadership regarding employee programs and organizational initiatives.
- Occasionally represent Mercer County Human Resources at off-site events, workforce programs, or educational partnerships.
Internship & Workforce Development Programs
- Assist with coordinating professional learning components of the Mercer County Student Internship Program and Summer Youth Employment initiatives.
- Support program logistics, communications, and coordination with participating departments and educational institutions.
Onboarding & Human Resources Support
- Assist with new hire orientation sessions and onboarding activities as needed.
- Maintain organized records and documentation related to training programs and workforce initiatives.
- Support internal communications related to professional development opportunities and engagement programs.
- Perform additional duties as assigned within the Department of Human Resources.
REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must possess one of the following:
- Four (4) years of experience in personnel administration, human resources, or related administrative work; or
- A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Human Resources, Public Administration, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Experience in program coordination, project management, or workforce initiatives.
- Experience coordinating professional development programs, training initiatives, or employee engagement activities.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with employees, leadership, and external partners.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within a team environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with internal departments and external partners.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
- Ability to develop tracking systems and maintain accurate records for program administration.
