Director of Dining Services/ Food Service Director - 80-100K
Job Objective/ Summary
The Director of Dining Services is responsible for the overall operation of the Dining Service
department in accordance with all federal, state and local regulations. The Director is also
responsible for conducting employee safety, sanitation, and maintenance programs; while
maintaining positive relationships with residents, guests, as well as other departments within the
facility.
Essential Functions
- Ensures that the department is in compliance with state, county, and/or local inspection standards.
- Demonstrates effective implementation and monitoring of departmental activities/quality controls and participates in improving organizational performance.
- Consistently focuses on achieving optimal resident satisfaction.
- Teaches department staff the basics of food safety and sanitation as related to the storage, preservation, and preparation of various food items.
- Plans menus that conform to budget and/or cost requirements, equipment, time, and employee availability.
- Assists in creating and implementing the use of standardized recipes.
- Evaluates food products based on established criteria for acceptability, costs and product quality.
- Directs the use of facility and equipment based on criteria for safety, sanitation, and security.
- Ensures that systems are in place to facilitate cleaning and sanitation of kitchen and all equipment.

Job Education, Licenses/Certifications, Knowledge & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Food Service Management, Nutrition, Business Management or relevant field. Five (5) years of progressive work in food nutrition, accounting and/or customer service management.
Supervision (direct reports and level of supervision)
- All employees employed in the Dining Services department.

- Expenditure within budgetary restraints

Additional Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
- Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
- Advanced working knowledge and ability with personal computing applications – specifically
Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), Adobe products (e.g., Reader,
Professional).
- Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
- Active Listening – giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate time.
- Critical Thinking – using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.

- Must have valid driver’s license, personal automobile liability insurance, and acceptable driving record (if required to drive).
