Position Statement:
Under the direction of the Radiologist, the imaging technologist performs a variety of procedures following department and modality protocols. The technologist is responsible for producing quality imaging procedures with no supervision of technical detail. Using independent judgment, with ingenuity and initiative to provide a diagnosis while maintaining patient safety.

Key Responsibilities:
- Reviews patient order, and obtains appropriate clinical history, including review of pre-procedure lab results when applicable. Document required information into the PACs and RIS system, including scanned screening forms when applicable.
- Prepares room, equipment, and supplies for each patient including contrast and IV starts when applicable.
- Prepares patient by explaining the procedure, selects proper protocol based on exam ordered, positions the patient according to protocol, and assists patient to/from imaging room
- Follows prescribed techniques in administrating imaging and determines proper technique and parameters based on patient body habitus being imaged, including immobilization devices based on patient need
- Adheres to prescribed standards for MRI safety when applicable, and radiation safety by following ALARA when applicable, while practicing universal precautions and contact/droplet precautions as required
- Evaluates image quality for proper technique, motion, artifacts, and proper position.
- Completes work in PACs, RIS, and teleradiology program when applicable
- Knowledgeable of special procedures such as biopsies, drainages, etc. including set-up and supplies necessary during exam
- Maintains stock supplies in imaging room, cleans and disinfects imaging room and equipment after each patient.
- Participates in departmental quality assurance program, including QC as directed. Reports equipment failures to Lead modality technologist or Director of Imaging
- Varied shift rotation including weekends, holidays, and on-call as requested
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Graduate of an A.M.A. approved training program in Radiologic Technology
- Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
- One year’s experience as a Radiologic Technologist preferred
- Vermont state license
- Complete 24 Cat A continuing education credits every two years for ARRT
- CPR certification required
- Ability to follow NCH’s standards of behavior
