About This Position
Job Summary
The Dock Worker is responsible for receiving, unloading, staging, and shipping recyclable plastic materials and finished products in a plastics recycling facility. This role ensures safe and efficient movement of materials between trucks, storage areas, and production lines. The ideal candidate is safety-focused, organized, and comfortable working in a fast-paced industrial environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Load and unload trucks containing recyclable plastics (bales, boxes, gaylords, pallets)
- Verify incoming and outgoing shipments against bills of lading and shipping documents
- Inspect materials for visible contamination, damage, or incorrect labeling
- Move raw materials to designated storage or production areas
- Stage finished goods for shipment and assist with order preparation
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment
- Secure loads using straps, wrap, or other methods to prevent shifting during transport
- Maintain accurate inventory counts and report discrepancies
- Keep dock, storage, and staging areas clean and organized (5S practices)
- Follow traffic patterns and safety rules for pedestrian and forklift movement
- Communicate with production, warehouse, and logistics teams regarding material needs
- Assist with general warehouse duties as required
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. (23 kg) regularly
- Comfortable working indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures
- Basic math and counting skills
- Ability to follow safety procedures and work instructions
- Reliable attendance and strong teamwork skills
Preferred (Not Required)
- Forklift certification or experience operating powered industrial trucks
- Previous warehouse, shipping/receiving, or manufacturing experience
- Experience handling recyclable materials or industrial goods
Physical Requirements
- Frequent lifting, bending, and walking
- Standing for extended periods
- Working in a noisy industrial environment
- Use of PPE such as safety shoes, gloves, high-visibility vest, and hearing protection
Work Schedule
- Dayshift 7AM – 330PM Monday-Friday
- Overtime and weekend work may be required based on shipping schedules
Safety & Work Environment
This role operates in an industrial recycling environment with heavy equipment and vehicle traffic. Strict adherence to safety procedures, dock rules, and PPE requirements is mandatory.
