The full salary range for this position is posted. New hires typically start between the minimum and market within the salary range. PenMet Parks may offer a slightly higher salary based on experience, internal equity, and factors impacting the market.

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Accounting Specialist completes a wide variety of complex accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and/or payroll. Coordinates with the Director of Finance and Administration to deliver financial reporting for internal management purposes, and externally to the Board of Park Commissioner, independent auditors, and public agencies (including state auditors).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

Supports and completes financial functions including but not limited to payroll, accounts payable/receivable, generating and analyzing financial reports, and preparing financial statements.

Assist with the creation and development of automated procedures.

Ensure all processes are performed in adherence to District polices.

Reviews and invoices, requisitions, and budget transfers in accordance with policies and procedures.

Compiles and analyzes financial information for entry into accounting software.

Working cooperatively in a team environment.

Coordinates with the Director of Finance and Administration to manage the month-end closing process which includes all account reconciliations.

Engages in evaluation of current accounting practices, policies and procedures, systems, and reports to ensure effective and efficient accounting and reporting practices.

Reviews reports, contracts, and other documents to ensure compliance with regulations and policies.

Assists with employee training, development, and recognition programs as assigned.

Administers employee benefits programs as assigned.

Develops and maintains effective professional relationships with internal and external customers.

Takes responsibility and ownership for successfully accomplishing work and the organization’s objectives and delivering results.

Ensures work is thoughtfully completed, accurate, and error free to the highest degree possible.

Supports and maintains an inclusive work environment that respects diverse ideas, backgrounds, and styles.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Experience:

Two to five years of experience in finance and/or administrative fields.

Required Education:

Ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in finance, accounting, business administration, human resources, public administration, or a related field.

Professional Licenses/Certifications: None.

Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of accounting methods, internal controls, and best practices.

Basic knowledge of human resources methods and best practices.

Knowledge of administrative best practices.

Proficient in Microsoft Office. Knowledge of accounting software (Springbrook). Knowledge of recreation/scheduling software (ActiveNet).

Performs multiple tasks simultaneously.

Assesses the work to be performed and sets appropriate priorities and realistic time parameters.

Ensures work is thoughtfully and professionally completed.

Possesses strong written, listening, and verbal communication skills.

Produces and delivers professional-quality reports and other communication materials.

Works cooperatively and collaboratively with internal and external colleagues, the Board of Park Commissioners, contractors, partners, and the public.

Assesses situations effectively, identifies solutions, and takes initiative with minimal supervision.

Provides high-quality, responsive, and personable customer service to a broad range of participants and constituents.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is performed primarily in an office environment.

Prolonged periods of time may be spent using a computer, telephone, and other office equipment.

This position will require sitting for long periods of time and walking and/or standing is only required occasionally.

The position will occasionally be required to lift and carry up to 10 pounds.

This position will require seeing, talking, walking, standing, bending, crouching, crawling, carrying, pushing, and pulling.

Some local travel will be required for meetings and visiting District facilities.

Valid Washington driver’s license (required).

830am - 5pm Monday through Friday
40 hours per week
