Job Description
This is semi-skilled manual work in the care and maintenance of County buildings and grounds. Work involves overall janitorial, maintenance and housekeeping tasks required to ensure the cleanliness, safety and security of County facilities.
Work is performed under the supervision of the Facilities Manager, with a combination of written, oral and standard procedural instructions, and may be inspected occasionally while in progress. May be required to be available for on-call duties for boiler operations if licensed.
Performs tasks necessary for the upkeep and repair of County buildings. Performs floor-cleaning tasks such as sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, buffing and waxing. Cleans and sanitizes public restrooms. Dusts, washes windows and cleans various surfaces using appropriate cleaning materials. Assists in moving furniture and equipment, loading, unloading and delivering supplies. Removes and disposes of routine office waste. Building maintenance duties include painting and minor carpentry and plumbing work. Performs groundskeeping tasks such as shoveling, snow blowing and mowing.
Collects incoming mail at the Post Office, sorts and distributes to Courthouse offices and delivers outgoing mail. Monitors buildings while performing custodial duties, directs visitors, checks that doors are locked or unlocked as appropriate and ensures building security. Notifies the Facilities Manager of any supplies that need to be ordered or of any needed repairs. Performs other duties as required.
Responsible to observe all Watonwan County safety and health rules and to apply the principles of accident prevention in day-to-day duties.
Training and Experience
A combination substantially equivalent to high school graduation and some experience in custodial or building maintenance and repair work. Some experience in use of supplies necessary for cleaning and maintenance work. Some experience in carpentry and plumbing work is desirable. Requires valid Minnesota Driver's License.
Knowledge Abilities and Skills
Knowledge of materials, methods and techniques commonly used in cleaning, maintenance and repair work related to public buildings. Knowledge of all necessary safety precautions and work hazards associated with the performance of duties. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to perform manual tasks requiring coordination, dexterity, and strength adequate to lift and move objects of up to 100 pounds. Working ability to perform tasks involving prolonged standing, pushing, pulling, climbing and stooping. Ability to work indoors or outdoors under conditions of adverse weather and temperature.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with the general public and employees of Watonwan County.
