About This Position
Position Summary: The primary responsibility of this position is to install, replace or repair various substation structures and utilities. The Skilled Labor will assist in the construction of precast and cast in place electrical manholes, cable troughs, containment structures, form work, and finish concrete features. Assist with the site preparation and grading.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
· Install, set up, and calibrate lasers and other survey equipment
· Shovel, rake, transfer and grade materials such as dirt, stone and concrete
· Drive, mark, remove or replace grade stakes
· Measure and mark grades using rulers, levels, strings, and lasers
· Handling of materials using straps, ropes or chains and proper rigging equipment
· Utilize hand tools to include cutting devices,
· Operate tampers, rollers or other compaction devices
· Concrete forming, reinforcing and finishing
· Assist with demolishing structures, installing formwork, and dismantling forms
· Use of various hand and power tools to Erect built-in-place forms or assemblies, and install prefabricated forms according to blueprint and site specifications
· Anchor and brace forms to fixed objects, using nails, anchor rods, steel cables, steel pins, planks, and timbers
· Must perform general labor duties as assigned
Qualifications
· Knowledge of tools, materials, methods and techniques for utility and structure installation
· Knowledge of best safety practices for working in active substations
· Ability to interpret plans and survey stakes
· Communication skills, ability to comprehend instruction
· Competent Person Training, OSHA training, First Aid CPR, company provided
-Two years of carpentry, utility and or concrete installation experience
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS
The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:
· Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day. Employees must be able to stand, kneel, bend, and crouch for extended periods of time, as required to perform Key Duties
· Requiring the employee to climb ladders, scaffolds and stair towers, often with narrow steps and passageways
· Frequently work with hands extended overhead, sometimes in conjunction with the operation of hand power tools
· Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, up to 50 pounds personally, and up to 100 pounds with assistance
· Manual dexterity to hand-carry construction materials and tools to include lumber, rebar, hand and power tools
· Capable of operating concrete vibrators and finish tools for extended periods of time
· Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment
· Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions
· Capable of being certified to enter confined spaces, including climbing into and out of excavations using ladders or crawling, as required
· Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions
· Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust that is typically associated with a construction project
· Employees regularly work near heavy equipment and moving machinery
· Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites such as form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel
· May be required to work overtime as needed
· Must possess valid driver’s license
