SUMMARY:
The Project Accountant Lead is a full-time hybrid position based in the Baton Rouge office. This role is responsible for ensuring the administrative and financial health of projects throughout their lifecycle and performing a range of project-related accounting and reporting tasks to support project success. Additionally, the Project Accountant Lead will lead initiatives to improve departmental performance and drive collections. This position reports to the Accounts Receivable (AR) Manager and serves as a department leader in the AR Manager’s absence.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working in a similar or related capacity.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or other related degrees is required but relevant experience may be considered.
- Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint, Deltek products, or other project-based software is strongly preferred but not required.
- Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft products, specifically Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Must be detailed oriented with a high level of accuracy.
- Able to work independently and consistently achieve deadlines.
- Demonstrates strong initiative and holds oneself accountable for results.
- Must be able to manage competing priorities and respond effectively to change.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain an insurable driving record.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Acts as a key team player in coordinating billing and financial reporting to support successful project outcomes and company growth.
- Demonstrates leadership by taking ownership of project accounting responsibilities, guiding project teams on the best financial practices, and proactively identifying opportunities for improvement.
- Discovers bottlenecks and develops efficiencies in processes to improve department performance.
- Exhibits ownership in driving collections and ensuring timely receipt of client payments.
- Prepares and issues a high volume of invoices to clients.
- Assists with month-end reconciliation reports.
- Prepares and reviews complex government or industry specific invoices.
- Solves payment and receivable discrepancies.
- Responsible for the creation and implementation of processes to monitor project financial health to ensure projects are profitable and within budget.
- Actively reviews and assists with the maintenance and data integrity of Deltek Vantagepoint.
- Collaborates with the AR Manager on ad-hoc basis.
- Supports fellow team members to ensure their efforts are successful. Acts in lead role capacity to assist the AR Manager.
