Job Description
Job Title: Medical Scribe
Department: Clinic, Back Office
Status: Non-Exempt, FT
Reports To: Physician
Medical Scribes are individuals who assist a physician throughout their shift. The primary goal of a Medical Scribe is to increase the efficiency and the productivity of the physician they are working for. The Medical Scribe allows the doctor to focus on what is most important, the patient. Performing all clerical and information technology functions for a physician in a clinic setting. This includes primary responsibility of the operation of the electronic health records.
You also must be able to anticipate physician needs in order to facilitate the flow of clinic. Medical Scribes must be discreet and tactful in performance of duties so as not to distract medical staff from patient care.
Responsibilities and Duties
1. Accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by the physician, including but not limited to:
· Patient medical history and physical exams
· Procedures and treatments performed by healthcare professionals
· Patient education
· Medical Terminology
· Efficient typing skills
· Physician-dictated diagnoses, prescriptions and instructions for patient or family members for self-care and follow-up
2. Paper Work
· Completing various forms, including; Physical Therapy, MRI, Surgery
· Completing Superbills
· Completing Letters (employment, school excuses)
3. Dropping Charges
· Coding/Charge Entry
Medical Scribes also identity inconsistencies in medical documentation and check to correct the information in order to reduce errors. Medical Scribes ensure that all clinical data, lab or other test results, the interpretation of the results by the physician are recorded accurately in the medical record. Alert physician when chart is incomplete. Good judgment, organizational ability, initiative, attention to detail, and the ability to be self-motivated are especially important when working as a Medical Scribe. Ability to be adaptable and versatile due to being responsible for many tasks. Any other duties determined appropriate by management.

Requirements:Qualifications
- High School diploma, or equivalent required.
- Special Position Requirements
- Light travel to other offices may be required for business needs.
- Preferences
- At least one (1) year of experience preferred
Work Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, bend, reach and squat. The employee is also regularly required to type and perform work using a computer. Employee duties will frequently require verbal communication with patients. Occasional lifting up to 30lbs and assisting patients in and out of the patient chair.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee must communicate professionally and courteously with patients and clinic staff. Employee must be able to sit for at least an hour at a time. Employee must be able to stand and walk for up to 20 minutes at a time. Employee is required to assist with rooming patients, filing, and other basic office tasks to include keeping office environment and waiting room clean. This will require the ability to bend, stoop, and lift up to 5-10 lbs. The position requires the ability to utilize the computer and keyboard for long periods of time.
