The Digital Product Owner is responsible for supporting audience growth and consumer revenue by building, maintaining, and

improving the technical systems and infrastructure that power email marketing, analytics, and subscription operations.

This role collaborates with cross-functional teams to translate complex business needs into practical technical solutions,

supporting initiatives from early discovery and technical scoping through implementation.

Reporting to the Audience team, the Digital Product Owner works closely with newsroom and revenue teams to support system

performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure successful execution of digital initiatives. This role requires the ability

to understand strategy, align stakeholders, and deliver solutions that drive measurable impact on audience and revenue

outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and manage infrastructures for email marketing automation, business applications, and customer service tools.
  • Develop and maintain API architecture for analytics and account management.
  • Build data pipelines and reporting infrastructure to generate actionable insights that inform user and revenue growth strategies.
  • Manage and optimize CRMs, paywall systems and subscription strategies to maximize conversion and retention.
  • Perform hands on edits and implementations using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, templates, and related code.
  • Manage relationships with third-party technical vendors that support consumer revenue, including paywall and analytics platforms such as Piano and Sophi.
  • Manage and optimize analytics tags and tracking codes across multiple digital products using tools such as Google Tag Manager.
  • Oversee and execute large scale data migrations (identity, email marketing, advertising).
  • Contribute to overall strategy to grow audience and consumer revenue.
  • Set up and maintain A/B testing and quality assurance processes.
  • Ensure systems adhere to cybersecurity and data privacy best practices.
  • Translate complex business requirements into clear technical solutions, partnering across multiple teams.
  • Lead technical discussions to align stakeholders and shape solutions.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, process guides, test scripts, and training materials for supported systems and workflows.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, computer science, marketing technology, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience in technical application support, marketing technology, analytics infrastructure or a similar technical role.
  • Strong technical background with hands-on experience in software development, system architecture, or infrastructure management.
  • Understanding of software development methodologies, technical stacks (front-end, back-end, cloud infrastructure), and API design.
  • Knowledge of security best practices, scalability, and performance optimization.
  • Experience with CRMs, CMS/digital publishing systems, payment integrations, email marketing, data analytics, and subscription/paywall platforms preferred, especially in a media or content-heavy environment.
  • Ability to read and understand technical documentation and participate in technical discussions.
  • Knowledge of ad tech and audience analytics systems.
  • Strong prioritization, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills
