Position Summary

The Payroll / HR Generalist supports the Human Resources function with a primary focus on accurate, compliant payroll processing while also providing generalist-level HR support across employee lifecycle activities. This role serves as a key partner to HR leadership, supervisors, and employees to ensure payroll integrity, data accuracy, and adherence to employment laws and company policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Payroll Administration

  • Process bi-weekly payroll accurately and on time, including regular wages, overtime, PTO payouts, bonuses, stipends, and other earnings.
  • Review, audit, and reconcile payroll data to ensure accuracy before submission and final approval.
  • Maintain payroll records, deduction codes, tax files, garnishments, and related documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws, payroll tax requirements, and reporting deadlines.
  • Coordinate payroll changes related to new hires, terminations, promotions, pay changes, and job changes.
  • Partner with HR leadership and Finance to resolve payroll discrepancies and improve payroll processes.
  • Support year-end payroll activities, including W-2 processing and audits.

HR Generalist Responsibilities

  • Administer employee data changes within the HRIS to maintain data integrity and confidentiality.
  • Support onboarding, orientation, and employee lifecycle documentation.
  • Assist with benefits administration, open enrollment, and employee inquiries related to compensation and benefits.
  • Provide guidance to supervisors and employees regarding HR policies, procedures, and employment practices.
  • Support employee relations activities, including documentation, investigations, and compliance tracking.
  • Assist with audits, reporting, and HR compliance initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of payroll laws, wage and hour regulations, and HR compliance requirements.
  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage confidential and sensitive information.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and HRIS / payroll systems.
Requirements:

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, Accounting, or related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in payroll and human resources administration.
  • Experience supporting payroll processing in a multi-site or manufacturing environment.
  • Paylocity HRIS experience preferred.

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Primarily office-based; may require occasional lifting of files or materials.
  • Regular use of computer systems and office equipment.
