About This Position

If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to work as a Supervisor on our Community Health Worker Team working within our Behavioral Health Urgent Care Center!

What You Will Be Doing
As a Community Health Worker Supervisor you will be responsible for managing a team of community health workers (CHWs) who work at the Behavioral Health Urgent Care Center which is a 24-hour program. This position will require working an alternative schedule which will include later evening hours. CHWs staffed in the Urgent Care Setting work with individuals across all populations including adults who have been diagnosed with a mental illness and/or substance use disorder, youth with a Serious Emotional Disturbance, and Individuals with Developmental Disabilities. This CHW team will provide direct assistance to at risk populations who may be experiencing an acute crisis or are seeking routine care. CHWs identify social determinants of health individuals need assistance with and help by linking them to resources that can provide aid in those areas. CHWs also provide help with navigating those resources to ensure best possible outcomes. In this supervisory role, you will demonstrate comfort and capability leading a team that works with individuals experiencing a crisis, cultural competence, and strong communication and problem-solving skills.

What We Require
A High School Diploma or GED with a minimum of three years of work experience in the area of mental health, co-occurring disorders, or similar healthcare field. One year of experience working directly as a Certified Community Health Worker assisting those diagnosed with a mental illness or co-occurring disorder is preferred. Experience with supervision and/or leadership and an ability to train/mentor other team members is preferred. Experience working in a crisis setting and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment are preferred. A valid Michigan Driver’s License is required.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
Physical Efforts – Job demands include prolonged sitting and standing as appropriate. May occasionally require light lifting up to 25 pounds, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or bending as appropriate. Requires coordination of hands and/or eye/hand/foot.

Working Conditions – Office environment with noise from computers, copy machine, and telephones. Use of video display terminal (VDT) for periods in excess of 30 minutes at a time. Possible eyestrain from extended periods of viewing VDT. May be exposed to bloodborne pathogens, infectious diseases, and parasites. Travel throughout the Kalamazoo area is required.
