Job Description


Purpose/Description

Under close supervision, Administrative Technicians 1 perform the least difficult clerical work involving the application of office procedures of limited complexity. As the employee becomes familiar with the specific work methods and procedures, their work is performed with some independence of action. Duties may include but are not limited to: Sorting, filing and retrieving materials from files; handling public contact and answering telephones; light data entry assignments; checking or reviewing clerical records for completeness, accuracy and conformance with prescribed office practices where no complicated problems are involved; and other duties as assigned.

Administrative Technicians are employed throughout Wayne County including Downriver, Western Wayne County and Detroit.


Responsibilities


Required Tasks

  • Answer, screen, or forward calls, providing information, taking messages, or scheduling appointments.
  • Greet persons, determine nature and purpose of visit, and direct or escort them to specific destinations.
  • Hear and resolve complaints from customers or the public.
  • Operate office machines, such as photocopiers and scanners, facsimile machines, voice mail systems, and personal computers.
  • Answer telephones, direct calls, and take messages.
  • Maintain and update filing, inventory, mailing, and database systems, either manually or using a computer.
  • Communicate with customers, employees, and other individuals to answer questions, disseminate or explain information, and address complaints within prescribed limits.
  • Open, sort, and route incoming mail, answer correspondence, and prepare outgoing mail.
  • Compile, copy, sort, and file records of office activities, business transactions, and other activities.
  • Compute, record, and proofread data and other information, such as records or reports.
  • Type, format, proofread, and edit correspondence and other documents, from notes or dictating machines, using computers or typewriters.
  • Review files, records, and other documents to obtain information to respond to requests.
  • File paperwork.
  • Assist in various projects.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Educational Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent

NOTE: Driving positions are available. Candidates may be considered for higher level positions based on additional years of experience.

A Written test will be administered covering knowledge of general office/clerical procedures and related knowledge.
