Description:
RDTS is seeking a mid-level Space Planner/Interior Designer with federal government experience to support the Bureau of Consular Affairs at the U.S. Dept of State in Washington, D.C.
This position is full-time with standard office hours and 100% remote; however, candidates are preferred to have a home office within 90 miles of Washington, D.C. due to the collaborative nature of the position. This position requires frequent travel to government sites across the US.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Support Senior Space Planner and other team members as needed. Collect operational data and assist in analyzing facilities related to present and future space requirements as set forth by Program of Requirements (POR).
- Review interior space requirements based on POR objectives, workflow, agency clientele, budget limitations, and growth projections. Research and evaluates findings for furniture solutions with team members.
- Develop interior space requirements, applying office space use standards, interior architecture planning standards, ADA/ABA compliance, and Building Code requirements.
- Develop concept and space plans using AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and manual drafting techniques to illustrate design concepts.
- Produce design documentations that may include counter details, processing stations, functional work areas, systems furniture, demountable wall partitions, case goods, ancillary furniture as well as electrical components.
- Assist in finalizing space plans, including systems furniture, collaborative areas, meeting rooms, private offices and public spaces.
- Develop signage plans and packages, review Design Intent Document (DID) and Construction Document (CD) sets in collaboration with team members.
- Prepare bid packages including cost estimate, technical matrices, Statement of Work (SOW) and other supporting documentation. Participate in the review and evaluation of vendor bid responses.
- Coordinate with furniture dealerships, project managers, and sales personnel to ensure a successful project.
- Active Security Clearance.
- Bachelor’s degree in interior design from an accredited university or college, Architecture or Planning.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in planning and designing interiors, furniture specifications, and designing space plans, lighting, and ADA /ABA compliance.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and construction documents.
- Advanced computer skills using, including proficiency in AutoCAD, Bluebeam and spreadsheet software.
- Excellent customer service, communication, and organizational skills with the ability to communicate effectively across multiple platforms.
- Able to independently arrange travel accommodations including air, rail, automobile, and hotel reservations. Travel expenses will be reimbursed.
