An Optician helps customers with fitting glasses or contact lenses, after obtaining prescriptions from Optometrists or Ophthalmologists. Also known as a Dispensing Optician, the Optician advises customers on the styles and characteristics of eyewear to best suit their needs.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Measures eyes and facial contours to recommend proper size frames and to aid customers in selecting

  • Fit eyeglasses to customer's satisfaction, making adjustments that may be required to achieve maximum comfort.
  • Shows clients how to insert, remove, and care for contact lenses. Make sure lenses fit the client properly.
  • Make minor repairs to damaged frames or replace frames according to customer's wishes.
  • May also fit low vision aids or cosmetic shells to cover blemished eyes.
  • Administrative duties such as filing, following up on orders, following up with patients, answering phones, assisting the doctor with special orders and referrals
  • Multi-tasking to help patients in a timely manner
  • Assists patients in selecting frames according to client's occupation, habits, and appearance.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager or designee

Position/Type/ Expected Hours of Work:

Hours of work are generally Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Travel:

Travel between locations may be required and scheduled at the discretion of the manager or designee. Employees are reimbursed for mileage and travel time.

Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in ophthalmic dispensing or optometric technology. • Valid state license.
  • Current and valid Certification by the American Board of Opticianry and the National Contact Lens Examiners (ABO-NCLE).

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to perform effectively in a high volume of patient interaction
  • Ability to read, write and speak English fluently
  • Proven quality experience as demonstrated through historical work/achievement
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Ability to meet deadlines and goals
