Position Overview
The City of Sharonville is seeking a dependable and motivated professional to serve as a Public Works Operator. This full-time position supports the daily operations of the Public Works Department by operating equipment and performing maintenance, repair, and construction activities that keep the City's streets, public facilities, parks, and infrastructure safe and well maintained.
The Public Works Operator performs a variety of duties including equipment operation, facility maintenance, roadway and right-of-way repairs, traffic control, seasonal maintenance, and event support. The ideal candidate will possess a strong work ethic, mechanical aptitude, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.Wages and Benefits

Pay Range: $26.52 to $38.05 per hour.

Qualifications
- Be at least eighteen (18) years of age as of the application deadline.
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED).
- Possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or have the ability to obtain one within the first six (6) months of employment.
Driver License and Insurability
This classification requires applicants to possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) at the time of appointment or successfully obtain one within the first six (6) months of employment. Employees must maintain a valid Class B CDL throughout their employment. In addition, employees must maintain a driving record that complies with the requirements of the City of Sharonville's insurance carrier.

To be considered for employment, applicants must submit an employment application electronically through the City of Sharonville Employment Portal and participate in the required written examination as outlined below.

Applications submitted by U.S. Postal Service mail, any other delivery service, fax, email, hand delivery, or any other method will not be processed.

Written Examination
Applicants who timely submit an application for employment are required to participate in a written examination. The written examination may include video segments.

Applicants must arrive by 5:30 PM for registration and check-in.
A current government-issued photo identification is required for admittance.
The written examination may include questions requiring mathematical calculations. Applicants should bring a calculator-only device. Cell phones may not be used as calculators.
Applicants will have up to two (2) hours to complete the examination.
This is the only notice of the written examination date, time, and location that applicants will receive.
Written Examination Late Arrival
Late arrivals will not be admitted. However, the Sharonville Civil Service Commission may permit an applicant who arrives late to take a provisional examination only when a specific, unavoidable, and verifiable circumstance (such as excessive traffic, inclement weather, closed streets, or natural disasters) caused the late arrival.
Passing Score
Each candidate's employment eligibility requires achieving a passing score of 70% or greater on the written examination.
Applicants who achieve a passing score will be placed on an eligible list ranked by final score. Final scores on the eligible list will include any applicable extra credit described below. Employment eligibility will be subject to Ohio Civil Service Law and the Rules and Regulations of the Sharonville Civil Service Commission.
If two or more applicants achieve identical written examination passing scores, applicants will be ranked in order of the earliest date and time their employment application was received. In some situations, federal law requires military veterans or National Guard members to be ranked highest when two or more applicants achieve identical passing scores.
Extra Credit
Extra credit will be added to each applicant's written examination passing score of 70% or greater for one of the following:
- Military credit of 20% of the passing score for candidates who submit a DD-214 confirming an honorable discharge.
- Educational credit of 10% of the passing score for a Bachelor's degree or higher.
- Educational credit of 5% of the passing score for an Associate degree.
Important: Copies of degree documentation or DD-214 forms must be submitted with the application for employment or extra credit will not be applied.
Pre-Employment Procedures
Applicants must achieve a passing score on the written examination and may be subject to:
- Background investigation
- Physical fitness examination
- Drug and alcohol screening
- Evaluation of the applicant's knowledge, abilities, and job-related skills
Accommodations
Any applicant requiring an accommodation during any phase of the application procedure must submit a written request describing the requested accommodation and the reason for the request.
If the request relates to a medical condition, documentation from a physician or other medical practitioner dated within one (1) year of the application submission date must accompany the request. Additional substantiation may be required for non-medical accommodation requests.
