Vertical Video Reporter

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Vertical Video Reporter based in United States.

This role offers an opportunity to reshape complex investigative journalism into engaging, high-impact visual stories for digital audiences.
You will create short-form vertical video content that brings important issues to life across leading social platforms.
Working alongside experienced journalists and audience specialists, you will help expand the reach and impact of mission-driven reporting.
The ideal candidate combines strong editorial judgment, creative storytelling skills, and deep knowledge of social video formats.
You will own projects from concept development through production, editing, publishing, and performance analysis.
This position is ideal for a journalist who understands digital audiences and can balance speed, creativity, and journalistic integrity.
You will play a key role in building innovative storytelling approaches that connect audiences with meaningful reporting.

Accountabilities:
  • Partner with reporting teams to transform investigative journalism into compelling vertical video stories, including identifying video opportunities, developing scripts, and directing or editing content.
  • Lead the development and execution of short-form video strategies across social platforms by conceptualizing, producing, and publishing original video journalism.
  • Monitor relevant news cycles and audience trends to create timely explainer videos that connect current events with deeper reporting and insights.
  • Manage multiple video projects throughout the full production lifecycle, from initial idea generation to final publication.
  • Appear on camera and host video formats as needed to build audience connection and strengthen the organization’s digital presence.
  • Analyze video performance metrics with audience leadership to understand viewer behavior and continuously improve content formats, storytelling techniques, and engagement strategies.
  • Support reporters with filming guidance, field-recording best practices, and production recommendations to improve the quality of collaborative video projects.
  • Edit videos according to established editorial standards while optimizing content for platform-specific requirements, including captions and engagement features.
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of professional journalism experience with a strong portfolio of social video production and digital storytelling.
  • Proven experience creating and executing social video strategies that increase audience engagement and growth.
  • Advanced proficiency with Adobe Premiere Pro and the ability to edit efficiently in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Demonstrated success producing short-form vertical videos for platforms such as TikTok, YouTube, and Instagram.
  • Strong understanding of digital storytelling trends, internet culture, and the visual pacing required for successful short-form content.
  • Excellent news judgment and the ability to translate complex topics into accessible, engaging narratives without losing accuracy or context.
  • Comfortable appearing on camera and engaging audiences through hosted video formats.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and production timelines.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with journalists, audience teams, and other stakeholders.
  • Experience covering social issues, investigative reporting, or public-interest topics is a plus.

  • Competitive annual salary range of $105,000 - $115,000.
