Job Description
Position Description: Peninsula Spine & Pain Clinic is seeking a compassionate, highly motivated Physician Assistant (PA-C) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our growing Pain Management group. The provider will work collaboratively with the supervising physician to deliver comprehensive pain management care to patients suffering from acute and chronic pain conditions.
The APP will be responsible for evaluating and managing established patients, developing treatment plans, ordering diagnostic studies and interventional procedures, performing in office procedures, and assisting with advanced pain management therapies including filling intrathecal pain pumps, etc.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Conduct comprehensive follow-up evaluations for patients with chronic pain conditions.
Assess treatment effectiveness, functional outcomes, and medication compliance.
Develop and modify individualized treatment plans in collaboration with the supervising physician.
Document all patient encounters accurately and efficiently in the electronic health record (Athena).
Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatment options, medication management, and procedural expectations.
Manage controlled substances responsibly in accordance with pain management best practices.
Review prescription monitoring programs (PMP/PDMP) as required.
Order and coordinate interventional pain procedures.
Perform office-based injections and other approved procedures within the provider's scope of practice and training.
Provide post-procedure follow-up care and management.
Intrathecal Pain Pump Management
Perform intrathecal pain pump refills and maintenance after appropriate training and credentialing.
Coordinate pump programming adjustments with the supervising physician as appropriate.
Diagnostic Evaluation
Order imaging and diagnostic tests.
Review MRI, CT, X-ray, EMG, and other diagnostic findings.
Qualifications:
Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.
Current state licensure as a PA-C or NP.
Current DEA registration and eligible for controlled substance prescribing.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
Strong clinical assessment and decision-making skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities.
Preferred:
One or more years of experience in a pain management setting.
Experience with interventional pain procedures and managing chronic pain.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment:
Outpatient pain management and interventional spine clinic.
