Maintenance Supervisor

Middletown, Ohio | Truck Garage

About the Role

Cohen is seeking an experienced, hands-on Maintenance Supervisor to lead the daily operations of our Middletown Truck Garage. This position is responsible for overseeing the maintenance team and ensuring the safe, timely, and efficient maintenance and repair of our fleet of trucks, trailers, and related equipment.

The Maintenance Supervisor provides day-to-day leadership to the garage team, establishes maintenance priorities, coordinates repairs and preventive maintenance, and ensures service records are accurate and complete. This role is critical to maintaining fleet readiness, minimizing equipment downtime, and supporting safe and efficient operations.

The ideal candidate combines strong mechanical expertise with proven leadership skills and leads by example in promoting safety, accountability, teamwork, and quality workmanship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, supervise, and provide day-to-day direction to garage maintenance team members.
  • Assign, prioritize, and monitor maintenance and repair work to support fleet readiness and minimize downtime.
  • Oversee preventive maintenance, diagnostics, repairs, and inspections for company trucks, trailers, and related equipment.
  • Monitor equipment condition and proactively identify mechanical and safety concerns.
  • Ensure service tickets, maintenance records, and related documentation are accurate, complete, and timely.
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and support to maintenance team members.
  • Promote accountability, productivity, teamwork, and high-quality workmanship throughout the department.
  • Ensure compliance with Cohen safety requirements and applicable DOT and other federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Coordinate parts, materials, inventory, outside vendors, and repair services as needed.
  • Communicate equipment status, significant repairs, maintenance priorities, and operational concerns to management.
  • Perform and oversee hands-on maintenance and repairs, including truck and trailer diagnostics, brake and tire work, engine troubleshooting, and other mechanical repairs.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe garage environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent preferred.
  • Strong mechanical, diesel, truck, or heavy-equipment maintenance knowledge.
  • Previous supervisory, lead, or team leadership experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead employees, establish priorities, and manage multiple maintenance demands in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong diagnostic, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills with employees, management, drivers, vendors, and other departments.
  • Ability to read and understand maintenance documentation, service information, and safety procedures.
  • Familiarity with U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations applicable to commercial motor vehicles, fleet maintenance, inspections, and safety compliance.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to safely use standard mechanical tools and equipment.
  • Ability to work independently while effectively leading a team.
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Good hand/eye coordination and motor skills.
  • Flexibility to work weekends, nights, or additional hours when operational needs require.

Experience & Certifications

  • Truck, automotive, diesel, or heavy-equipment maintenance experience required.
  • Automotive or truck diagnostic experience required.
  • Brake repair experience required.
  • Roll-off truck maintenance experience preferred.
  • Previous supervisory or lead maintenance experience preferred.
  • EPA Universal Certification preferred.
  • Additional mechanical, diesel, fleet maintenance, or safety certifications are a plus.
