Position Summary: The Quality Specialist performs quality control, quality systems, document control, and incoming inspection activities to ensure products, materials, and processes meet company, customer, regulatory, and SQF requirements. Specific duties and areas of responsibility may vary by assignment, shift, experience, and business needs. This position offers an hourly pay range of $26.00–$30.00, with starting pay based on relevant experience, technical skill level, and demonstrated ability.
Essential Functions:
The Quality Specialist supports a variety of quality, food safety, document control, incoming inspection, and production support activities. Specific responsibilities may vary based on business needs, shift, experience, and individual assignment. Employees may perform some, but not necessarily all, of the functions listed below.
Quality Control & Production Support
- Perform quality inspections, monitor reviews, finished goods audits, and testing to verify products meet established specifications and customer requirements.
- Maintain quality records, logs, retains, reports, and other required documentation; review and update art files and quality data as assigned.
- Provide production and rework support, produce hand samples, and assist with quality-related operator training.
- Identify, document, and assist with resolution of nonconforming product and corrective actions.
SQF & Food Safety Support
- Support the facility's Food Safety and Quality Management System and serve as a backup to the SQF Practitioner, as assigned.
- Support compliance with SQF, FDA, GMP, HACCP, customer, and company requirements, including audits, food safety investigations, root cause analysis, CAPA, and corrective actions.
- Assist with HACCP and Food Safety Plans, audit preparation, quality and food safety metrics, risk assessments, food defense/food fraud programs, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Document Control
- Maintain the facility's document control system, including controlled documents, forms, records, revisions, approvals, distribution, and retention requirements.
- Conduct document reviews, assist with SOP development and updates, and ensure current documents are available for use and required employee acknowledgments are maintained.
- Support internal, customer, regulatory, and SQF audits by providing required documentation and records.
Incoming Inspection
- Perform receiving inspections and required testing of incoming raw materials, packaging materials, adhesives, inks, films, and purchased products according to established specifications.
- Verify material documentation, including COAs, COCs, lot numbers, traceability, labeling, quantity, appearance, dimensions, and other applicable requirements.
- Identify and place nonconforming materials on hold, communicate discrepancies to appropriate departments and suppliers, and assist with supplier corrective actions and performance monitoring.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be primarily in our climate-controlled facility. The plant floor is subject to vibration and equipment noise leading to a loud environment. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and might also be exposed to outside conditions, tight spaces, cleaning solvents and heights. There is a moderate to high demand for tight deadlines. This position will experience moderate interruption in workflow, starting and stopping for product changeovers.
Physical Demands: The physical demands here are representative of those that must be met by employees to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. The employee is required to see color variance between products, perform tasks requiring manual dexterity, stand for extended periods of time and walk extended distances. While performing the duties of this job:
- Continuous (6 to more hours per day) working at a computer terminal.
- Continuous (6 or more hours per day) talking, listening, teaching, and repetitive motion, hand/wrist movement.
- Continuous (6 or more hours per day) standing and walking.
- Frequent (1 to 3 hours per day) bending, pushing, pulling, climbing stairs, reaching, lifting, and grasping.
- Frequent (1 to 3 hours per day) work in a stooped position.
- Good eyesight, normal hearing.
- Ability to move and lift objects, frequently 50 lbs.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position. Days, nights and hours may vary depending on assigned shift and productions requirements. This position may require significant work hours beyond the normal workday based on the demands of the business cycle or customer volume of business.
Travel: Should not be required.
Required Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Manufacturing experience preferred.
- Must be able to read US standard measuring tape.
- Microsoft Office proficiency.
- Knowledge of SQF, HACCP, GMP, and FDA regulations.
- Root Cause Analysis and CAPA experience preferred.
Licenses and Certifications: None.
Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
