Job Description
Position Title: MONITOR TECHNICIAN
Position Summary:
The Monitor Technician (MT) is responsible for on-going surveillance of patient cardiac monitors and provides RNs and other clinicians with immediate notification of any changes in cardiac rhythms. The MT maintains ongoing, high-level surveillance of patient’s cardiac rhythms and notifies nursing/clinicians of any rate/rhythm changes according to clinician/provider orders. Responsibilities include, but may change over time, measuringinterpretingpatients heart rhythm, initiating and discontinues monitoring equipment on admission, transfer, or discharge. Performs configuration as necessary, clerical duties related to admission, discharge, documentation of patient information, answers telephone and communicates clearly when receiving information from units or providers. An essential function is the use of clear and complete communication with unit personnel when delivering information about changes in patient rhythm. The MT will orient and mentor new staff members and serve as a resource for training and troubleshooting. The MT will be responsible to give reports to oncoming shifts, prioritize and organize work assignment and adjusts priorities based on changing situations. Other duties involve assignment to maintain and stock all designated equipment, including telemetry, and transport monitors, replace defective equipment and report failures, and adheres to confidentiality of information acquired pertaining to patients, clinicians, employees, and visitors. The MT must be willing to report back to work during any emergency situation, this includes if needed during inclement weather, mass casualty, internal disaster, etc. The MT will complete other duties as assigned.

Education:
- High school diploma required.
- Proof of successful completion of Dysrhythmia course and EKG exam prior to completion of orientation.
- Two years’ experience monitoring ECG/ Dysrhythmia in a physician's office, clinic, hospital or similar setting preferred.
- Prior experience as a hospital based Monitor Tech preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) required or obtained with-in 90-days of employment.
- Exemplary core customer service skills strongly required.
- Strong organizational skills required.
- Strong PC skills required.
- Strong verbal communication skills required.
- Ability to exercise independent judgement in emergency situations required.
