Grocery Stocker in Port Townsend, Washington at FOOD CO-OP

The Grocery Stocker supports daily grocery operations by ensuring shelves and displays are fully stocked, organized, and visually appealing. This role helps maintain product availability, supports inventory control, and promotes store cleanliness. The Grocery Stocker works collaboratively with team members to create a safe, welcoming environment and ensure customers have a positive experience.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide friendly, professional customer service to all customers
• Foster a respectful, collaborative team environment to support efficient store operations
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations
• Stock shelves, displays, and refrigerated units efficiently and accurately
• Rotate products to ensure freshness (first-in, first-out method)
• Check expiration dates and remove outdated or damaged items
• Face shelves according to store standards
• Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering as needed
• Unload deliveries and verify shipment accuracy
• Assist with special orders and customer requests
• Stay informed about store products and promotions
• Assist customers with questions and direct them to appropriate store sections
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of aisles, storage areas, and backroom
• Participate in store inventories
• Follow opening and closing procedures as assigned
• Promptly clean spills and remove hazards to maintain a safe environment
• Report equipment problems or safety concerns to a Person-in-Charge (PIC) or manager
• Review the department communication log before each shift
• Attend and participate in all team and storewide meetings and training sessions
• Help train new team members
• Participate in store inventories
• Assist with cashiering when needed
• Perform other duties as assigned

Education: High School diploma or equivalent

• Valid WA Food Worker Card or ability to obtain within two weeks of hire

Experience: Previous stocking experience preferred

• Natural food or grocery store experience preferred

Abilities, Knowledge, & Skills:

• Ability to work flexible shifts including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to use personal protective equipment (PPE) when required
• Ability to read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for cleaning products
• Ability to follow safety procedures and department, store, and co-op policies
• Knowledge of food safety and health regulations
• Basic math skills and computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, email, and Internet) • Strong attention to detail
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Strong customer service skills

Physical Requirements

• Lift and move up to 50 pounds during shift
• Stand, walk, bend, twist, crouch, climb, and reach up to 8 hours
• Safely operate equipment such as box cutter, knives, pallet jacks, and ladders
• Occasionally work in cold environments (such as refrigerators and freezers)
• Work in a busy, noisy environment
• Remain alert, active, and safety-focused throughout the shift
