Job Description

Full Charge Bookkeeper

The Full Charge Bookkeeper will report directly to the CEO/Owner and is responsible for day-to-day accounting operations for multiple real estate entities. This position will maintain accurate books and records, perform account reconciliations, assist with financial reporting, support payroll and audit processes, and help ensure compliance with company policies and accounting procedures.

The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, trustworthy, comfortable working independently, and takes pride in accurate work completed on time. This role works closely with company ownership, community managers, outside accountants, auditors, banks, vendors, insurance providers, and professional advisors.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesAccounting Operations
  • Record and maintain accurate financial transactions on a daily basis.
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes with timely, organized follow-through.
  • Process vendor invoices, payments, resident receipts, deposits, and other accounting entries.
  • Maintain general ledger integrity across multiple entities.
  • Review transactions for completeness, proper coding, and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with cash management and banking activities.
Reconciliations and Financial Controls
  • Reconcile all bank accounts monthly and maintain organized support for each reconciliation.
  • Reconcile credit card accounts, loan accounts, security deposit liabilities, resident-related accounts, intercompany balances, and other balance sheet accounts.
  • Investigate and resolve discrepancies promptly and methodically.
  • Maintain supporting schedules and documentation for reconciliations, adjustments, and unusual items.
  • Help strengthen accounting procedures, documentation, and internal controls.
Financial Reporting and Close
  • Assist in preparing monthly financial statements and management reports.
  • Support timely and accurate month-end and year-end closing procedures.
  • Prepare recurring accounting schedules, workpapers, and supporting reports.
  • Generate reports for ownership, lenders, accountants, auditors, and other professional advisors.
  • Ensure financial information is complete, accurate, organized, and available when needed.
Property Management Accounting
  • Work within Rent Manager and other accounting systems to maintain accurate property-level financial information.
  • Support community managers with accounting-related questions and documentation needs.
  • Review property accounting activity for accuracy, completeness, and appropriate support.
  • Assist with resident ledger research, payment posting questions, and account history review when necessary.
  • Support implementation and improvement of accounting procedures across the portfolio.
Payroll, Compliance, and Administrative Support
  • Assist with payroll administration, payroll recordkeeping, and related documentation in a confidential and accurate manner.
  • Assist with sales tax filings and other required financial or regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate with outside CPAs during tax preparation, audit work, and other financial review processes.
  • Maintain organized electronic and physical accounting files and records.
  • Assist with special projects, process documentation, insurance coordination, and other administrative accounting support as assigned.
QualificationsRequirements
  • 2 years of bookkeeping or accounting experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and monthly account reconciliations.
  • Experience performing bank reconciliations and researching discrepancies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organization, and follow-through.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential financial and payroll information with professionalism
