Programmeur principal gameplay / Principal Gameplay Programmer

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Programmeur principal gameplay / Principal Gameplay Programmer based in Canada.

This is a senior-level game development role focused on shaping the core gameplay systems of high-quality AAA action titles played by millions of users worldwide. You will contribute directly to the design and implementation of engaging, responsive, and technically robust gameplay mechanics across console and PC platforms. Working within a highly experienced international team, you will collaborate closely with designers, animators, AI programmers, and technical artists to bring immersive game worlds to life. The role involves both high-level systems thinking and hands-on coding in performance-critical environments. You will help define what “fun” feels like through mechanics, physics, AI behavior, and animation systems. This is an opportunity to influence flagship AAA productions while working with cutting-edge Unreal Engine technology in a fast-evolving creative environment.

Accountabilities:
  • Design, implement, and optimize core gameplay systems for AAA console and PC titles, ensuring responsiveness, stability, and performance.
  • Develop and maintain gameplay mechanics including combat systems, character controls, AI behavior, physics interactions, and animation integration.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including designers, animators, AI programmers, and technical artists to translate creative vision into functional gameplay.
  • Work extensively with Unreal Engine 4/5 to build scalable and high-quality gameplay features.
  • Contribute to character scripting, animation blending systems, and gameplay-related technical solutions.
  • Profile and optimize game performance across multiple platforms, including PlayStation and Xbox consoles.
  • Diagnose complex technical issues and deliver fast, accurate solutions in a production environment.
  • Ensure gameplay systems are robust, maintainable, and aligned with overall game design goals.
  • Participate in iterative development cycles, adapting to evolving creative and technical requirements.
Requirements
  • 6+ years of experience in game development for console and/or PC platforms.
  • At least one shipped AAA title from start to finish with credited gameplay programming contributions.
  • Strong expertise in C++ (C/C++) and deep understanding of game engine architecture.
  • Excellent understanding of gameplay systems design and what makes mechanics engaging and fun.
  • Strong math skills relevant to gameplay programming (physics, vectors, transformations, etc.).
  • Solid experience with Unreal Engine 4/5 in production environments.
  • Experience with AI systems, physics, animation systems, and gameplay scripting.
  • Familiarity with animation blending, character systems, and real-time interaction mechanics.
  • Experience working with performance profiling and optimization techniques.
  • Ability to work effectively in fast-paced, iterative, and creatively evolving environments.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience developing for consoles such as PlayStation and Xbox is required or highly preferred.
