Overview
The National Water Quality Laboratory (NWQL) is the primary laboratory for USGS for determining organic and inorganic constituents in groundwater, surface water, river and lake sediments, aquatic plant and animal tissues, as well as for identifying and enumerating benthic invertebrate populations and analyzing atmospheric precipitation from the United States and its protectorates.
Montech Inc. is seeking a qualified Accession Login Technician to provide sample accessioning services with seasonal variations at the NWQL. This laboratory and its staff will follow the NELAC standard (National Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Conference) and the ISO/IEC 17025 standard (International Organization for Standardization) to meet the needs of nationwide stakeholders.
Place of Performance
The Accession Login Technician will provide services in-person/on-site at the NWQL in Lakewood, CO.
Hours of Operation
The Accession Login Technician will perform duties Monday-Friday, 8 hours per day, between core hours of 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM (schedule to be determined). Any hours outside of normal schedule requires prior approval.
Summary of Responsibilities
The Accession Login Technician is responsible for following responsibilities:
- Receive, log and prepare samples received in warehouse.
- Open coolers containing customer samples and accompanying Analytical Service Requests (ASR) form.
- Obtain cooler temperature and record on appropriate ASR form.
- Unpack coolers and reconcile contents with the corresponding ASR orders.
- Highlight ASRs with incomplete/incorrect orders for designated staff to troubleshoot.
- Pre-log samples by affixing barcodes to bottles and scan them into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). Obtain ASR number for the order from LIMS.
- Repack coolers for return to customers (remove ice/water, add shipping label, tape cooler).
- Deliver final ASRs to designated staff for subsequent data entry.
- Transport samples to storage facilities/refrigeration per Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Check bottles for acidification per SOPs; note in LIMS.
- Use pH strips to check the acidified bottles per pH requirements.
- Remove bottles from storage facilities and move to disposal per SOPs.
- Remove expired bottles; move to designated area per SOPs for disposal.
- Wash and burn new bottles and glassware per standard operating procedures.
- Follow seasonal instructions for samples for SOPs (e.g., ‘High Season’, ‘Low Season’).
- Follow quality assurance plan per SOPs – each task requires 98% (or better) of completion/accuracy.
- Inspection technique includes daily (or weekly) review for completeness.
- Help with monthly progress reports (metrics, accomplishments, progress, issues faced), as needed.
- Follow all facility safety and security protocols per facility SOPs.
- Follow all facility Conservation of Utilities and Sustainability Practices (energy and water efficiency).
- Follow facility ‘Buddy System’ for the safety of all personnel that work in the same areas to assure a safe work environment.
Qualifications
The Accession Login Technician shall possess a minimum of two (2) years of experience industry experience. Candidate must possess a High School diploma (preference: Associate’s degree or similar/advanced degree).
- Laboratory, inventory, and/or warehouse operations experience.
- Experience in automated systems for inventory control, stock replenishment, order processing.
- Knowledge of various packing and shipping methods.
- Proficiency in MS Windows, MS Office Suite, Teams, SharePoint, OneNote, etc.
- Proficiency with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and automated laboratory systems.
- Strong data entry skills and high attention to detail.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Experience in Wash-lab operations.
- Ability to learn and comprehend all required training for all internal tasks for the position.
- Able to lift 50 pounds, bend, reach, stoop, walk as well as remain standing for prolonged periods of time.
- Must pass a pre-employment physical examination.
Security
Employment is contingent upon the ability to pass the pre-employment drug test and a Federal security investigation (background check) to obtain a U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) Public Trust clearance prior to start.
