Location: Arlington, TN
Job Type: Full-Time
Shift: Second Shift | Monday-Friday, 4:00 PM-3:00 AM (Some Saturdays required)
Starting Pay: From $21.00 per hour (Higher pay available based on experience) + 10% Shift Differential
We are seeking a skilled Steel Fabrication & Assembly Technician to join a busy structural steel manufacturing team. This role focuses on fabricating and assembling structural steel components by interpreting fabrication drawings, preparing materials, and using a variety of shop equipment.
The ideal candidate has previous experience in a structural steel shop and is comfortable working with heavy materials while maintaining high standards for quality and safety.
- Read and interpret structural steel blueprints, fabrication drawings, shop details, weld symbols, and layout information.
- Fabricate and assemble structural steel components, including beams, columns, stair systems, railings, and miscellaneous metal products.
- Measure, mark, cut, position, and fit steel components according to project specifications.
- Prepare assemblies for welding by completing accurate fit-up and tack welding.
- Operate fabrication equipment such as ironworkers, magnetic drills (mag drills), band saws, grinders, oxy-fuel torches, plasma cutters, and other standard fabrication tools.
- Safely move materials using overhead cranes, rigging equipment, and other material handling devices.
- Verify dimensions, alignment, squareness, and overall fit before assemblies move to final welding.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area while meeting production schedules.
- At least 2 years of experience in structural steel fitting or fabrication preferred.
- Ability to read structural steel blueprints, fabrication drawings, layout details, and weld symbols.
- Experience performing structural layout, measuring, fit-up, and fabrication.
- Working knowledge of fabrication tools, precision measuring equipment, and shop machinery.
- Ability to safely handle heavy steel materials and remain on your feet throughout the shift.
- Experience using overhead cranes and rigging equipment is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail with a commitment to quality workmanship and workplace safety.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a production team.
Candidates with Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) experience are encouraged to apply.
Additional qualifications include:
- Producing clean, high-quality FCAW welds on structural steel.
- Welding in flat, horizontal, vertical, and overhead positions.
- Experience working in a structural steel fabrication environment.
