Hunter Foundry is a leading manufacturer of innovative foundry equipment and solutions, committed to delivering high-performance machinery and exceptional customer value. We are seeking a skilled and motivated Hydraulic Engineer to join our engineering team in Schaumburg, IL.

Position Summary

The Hydraulic Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, testing, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of hydraulic and pneumatic systems used in foundry equipment and industrial machinery. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with hydraulic power units, control valves, actuators, cylinders, and pneumatic systems, along with strong problem-solving and project execution skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop hydraulic and pneumatic systems for industrial machinery and equipment.
  • Create hydraulic and pneumatic schematics using CAD software.
  • Select and specify components including pumps, valves, cylinders, actuators, manifolds, filters, compressors, regulators, and fittings.
  • Perform system calculations related to pressure, flow, force, power, and energy efficiency.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, and service teams during product development and installation.
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic system issues and provide effective corrective actions.
  • Conduct testing, validation, and performance analysis of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Support equipment commissioning, startup, and field service activities as required.
  • Develop engineering documentation, including BOMs, technical specifications, operating procedures, and maintenance manuals.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and quality requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance system reliability, performance, and cost efficiency.
  • Provide technical support to production, customers, and service personnel.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in hydraulic and pneumatic system design and application.
  • Strong knowledge of hydraulic circuits, fluid power principles, and pneumatic controls.
  • Experience selecting and sizing hydraulic pumps, motors, cylinders, accumulators, valves, and pneumatic components.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Proficiency with CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar tools.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with industrial equipment, manufacturing machinery, or foundry equipment.
  • Knowledge of PLC-controlled hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Familiarity with NFPA, ISO, and fluid power industry standards.
  • Experience with hydraulic simulation and analysis tools.
  • Understanding of automation and motion control systems.
  • Hands-on experience with equipment installation, commissioning, and field support.
