Position Information


Under the general supervision of the Administrative Operations Manager, the Property and Evidence Technician provides operational and administrative support to the Police Department, with primary responsibility for property and evidence control functions. The position is responsible for receiving, documenting, storing, tracking, releasing, transporting, retaining, and disposing of property and evidence in accordance with established procedures and legal requirements; maintaining accurate records and chain of custody documentation; and providing administrative support for routine departmental operations.The full salary range for the Property and Evidence Technician is $25.38 - $35.97 per hour. However, the expected pay scale for this position is up to $30.13 per hour. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff.As a University employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.Please be advised that this is a two-year contract position.

Experience handling property and evidence in a law enforcement or public safety environment. Preferred
Experience using a law enforcement Computer Aided Dispatch/Records Management System (CAD/RMS) or other records management database. Preferred

This position has been identified as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) and is required to report crimes, incidents, and disciplinary referral statistics in accordance with the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act.Required
This position is a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) and must comply with applicable University policy.Required
Minimum Requirements
Ability to maintain accurate records, logs, and documentation with a high degree of attention to detail.
Ability to follow established procedures related to receiving, storing, tracking, releasing, and disposing of property and evidence.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and protect sensitive information.
Ability to organize and prioritize multiple assignments in a busy office environment with deadlines and interruptions.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to interact professionally and effectively with department personnel, outside agencies, and members of the public.
Ability to use standard office software and database systems.
Ability to work independently within established guidelines and exercise sound judgment in routine matters.
Ability to learn applicable laws, regulations, and departmental procedures related to property and evidence control.
Preferred Qualifications
Working knowledge of property and evidence handling practices in a law enforcement setting.
Working knowledge of chain of custody requirements and records retention practices.
Working knowledge of the criminal justice process as it relates to evidence handling and release.
Knowledge of the reporting requirements and crime categories of the Jeanne Clery Act.
