Position Summary:

The Marine Fabric Worker plays a critical role in the construction, repair, and maintenance of marine vessels and related structures by fabricating and installing various materials such as canvas, vinyl, and other specialized fabrics. This position requires precision and attention to detail to ensure that all fabric components meet safety standards and client specifications. The role involves working closely with shipbuilders, engineers, and other tradespeople to deliver durable and high-quality marine fabric products. The Marine Fabric Worker contributes to the overall functionality and aesthetic of marine vessels, enhancing their performance and longevity. This position demands a strong understanding of marine environments and the ability to adapt fabric solutions to withstand harsh conditions at sea.

What will you Do?

You will be responsible for supporting marine fabric work.

Lifting Moving rolls of fabric

Using hand tools, measuring and cutting fabric,

Maintaining a safe and clean environment

Following directions and the lead of the supervisor and task manager

Assist in measuring, wrapping and hanging of canvass material in a shipyard environment

Measure, cut, and sew marine fabrics including canvas, vinyl, and other materials to create covers, awnings, upholstery, and other marine fabric products.

Install fabricated materials on boats and marine structures

ensuring secure and weather-resistant fittings.

Inspect repair existing marine fabric installations,

identifying wear and damage and performing necessary maintenance.

Collaborate with project managers and other trades to ensure timely completion of marine fabric projects according to specifications.

Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a safe and organized manner, adhering to all safety protocols.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Ship board or ship yard experience
• Proven experience in marine fabric work or related upholstery/fabrication roles.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, patterns, and technical drawings.
• Proficiency in using sewing machines and hand tools specific to fabric work.
• Physical ability to lift heavy materials and work in various marine environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certification or training in marine upholstery or fabric technology.
• Experience working with specialized marine-grade materials and coatings.
• Familiarity with safety standards and regulations related to marine vessel fabrication.
• Basic welding or metalworking skills to assist with frame and support fabrication.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.

Lift and carry up to 60 pounds.

Ability to work in confined spaces.

Ability to use hand tools and measurement tools

Continuous visual awareness and mental focus.

Ability to work 8–12-hour shifts.

Availability to work 5–7 days per week, including overtime as needed.

Employment Requirements

Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening.

Required physical examination and respirator fit testing.

Subject to random drug and alcohol testing.

Background check, including verification of the past seven years of employment history.
