Position Summary
Hyperion Solutions is seeking a Hybrid Sales Representative based in our Chicago office. This role combines customer service, order administration, proactive outbound sales, and assigned major account support. The representative will build relationships with current and prospective customers, identify and follow up on sales opportunities, prepare accurate quotations, enter and manage orders, and help ensure a responsive customer experience from inquiry through fulfillment.
The role will include periodic travel to customer locations for relationship development, account reviews, product discussions, and sales support. When not travelling, the employee is expected to work from the Chicago office and provide reliable office coverage, including answering incoming calls, supporting shared customer communication channels, processing orders, and assisting teammates with day-to-day customer needs.
Primary Responsibilities
Outbound Sales & Business Development
- Proactively contact current, inactive, and prospective customers by phone and electronic communication to develop opportunities and increase sales.
- Follow up on quotations, open opportunities, customer inquiries, prior purchases, and identified product needs in a timely and organized manner.
- Promote relevant products and services based on customer requirements, purchasing history, and assigned sales priorities.
- Build and maintain a practical sales pipeline, document activity in the applicable systems, and communicate progress, risks, and next steps.
- Coordinate with sales leadership, product specialists, and other internal teams to support campaigns, new product introductions, and account growth initiatives.
Major Account Management
- Assume responsibility for assigned major accounts and serve as a consistent day-to-day commercial and service contact.
- Develop a strong understanding of assigned accounts, including contacts, purchasing patterns, active projects, service expectations, and growth opportunities.
- Conduct regular account follow-up and support account reviews, pricing discussions, forecasting, issue resolution, and relationship-building activities.
- Coordinate internally to ensure commitments to major accounts are clearly communicated, tracked, and completed.
Customer Care & Office Coverage
- Provide dependable in-office coverage when not travelling, including answering incoming telephone calls and responding to customer emails and shared communication channels.
- Respond promptly and professionally to customer inquiries, determine the appropriate course of action, and maintain a high standard of customer service.
- Support teammates during peak periods, absences, and customer escalations to maintain continuity of service.
- Maintain accurate records of customer interactions, commitments, transactions, comments, and complaints.
Quoting, Order Entry & Fulfillment Support
- Prepare accurate quotations by interpreting customer requirements, job specifications, product configurations, pricing, and availability.
- Enter and process quotes, orders, revisions, returns, and related sales documentation accurately and efficiently in accordance with ERP and company procedures.
- Review orders for completeness and accuracy, clarify missing information, and communicate order status, lead times, and changes to customers.
- Collaborate with logistics, production, purchasing, finance, and other departments to support seamless order fulfillment and a positive customer experience.
Customer Travel & Field Support
- Travel periodically to customer locations, trade events, or other company sites based on business needs.
- Participate in customer visits, relationship meetings, account reviews, product presentations, and opportunity-development activities.
- Document visit outcomes and ensure that agreed follow-up actions are assigned and completed promptly.
Problem Resolution & Product Knowledge
- Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of the company’s products, services, processes, and customer base.
- Provide appropriate solutions and alternatives within established authority, and ensure issues are followed through to resolution.
- Escalate technical, commercial, credit, quality, or delivery concerns appropriately while remaining accountable for customer
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary education in business, sales, office administration, or a related field is preferred.
- Customer service, inside sales, account management, or industrial product experience is preferred.
- Three or more years of experience supporting project-based or configured industrial product sales is preferred.
- Demonstrated comfort with outbound customer contact, sales follow-up, and relationship development.
- Ability to interpret customer requirements and prepare accurate quotations and order documentation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience using ERP, CRM, or other business management systems.
- Ability and willingness to travel periodically for customer and business needs.
- Prompt and regular attendance, with the ability to work on-site in the Chicago office when not travelling.
