Position Summary

This job description is intended to convey information important to the scope of this position and it is not intended to be an exhaustive list of skills, efforts, duties, responsibilities or working conditions associated with the position.

The Security Attendant helps maintain a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment for guests and employees by monitoring mountain operations, observing for policy violations or safety concerns, and responding to situations throughout the ski area as trained. This position works independently and alongside other departments to help enforce mountain policies, support operational safety, communicate concerns, and assist with incident response while providing professional and respectful customer service.

Successful employees in this role are dependable, observant, and comfortable communicating with a wide variety of guests and employees in changing operational and weather conditions. Employees are expected to use strong communication and de-escalation skills, maintain situational awareness, and respond calmly and professionally to operational or guest-related concerns while following department procedures and safety expectations. This position plays an important role in supporting a positive safety culture, protecting mountain operations, and contributing to a positive and inclusive workplace environment.

General Responsibilities:

  • Mt. Baker Security personnel are responsible for monitoring and responding to violations of mountain codes and laws pertaining to the facilities and people at Mt. Baker Ski Area.
  • General Security responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Completing and documenting Security training by an authorized Mt. Baker trainer
  • Familiarity with the Mt. Baker General Handbook
  • Working knowledge of Mountain Policies and Guidelines
  • Follow safety guidelines as described in the Accident Prevention Plan and as trained.
  • Report safety concerns directly to the Department Supervisor, Employee Safety Manager, Director of Mountain Operations, and General Manager as trained.
  • Actively participate in fostering a positive safety culture through words and actions.

Security duties primarily fall into these general areas:

  • Observe surroundings and communicate any issues to a supervisor, management, and/or on-mountain dispatch
  • Know the names and locations of the chair lifts, base areas and customer service locations at the ski area
  • Prevent theft of services as laid out in our mountain policies
  • Ability to use strong communication skills to maintain a welcoming and safe environment
  • Respond to situations with de-escalation strategies and engages a supervisor for next steps when necessary.
  • Work alongside other departments when policies need enforcing
  • Perform additional tasks as needed by management or Security Supervisor
  • Provide friendly and respectful customer service
  • Create and participate in a positive and inclusive workplace
  • Have a working knowledge of Mt. Baker Ski Area mountain policies and procedures, and familiarity of ski area facilities and services available
  • Perform duties as trained

Qualifications:

  • Willingness to learn
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Successful completion of security training by an authorized Mt. Baker Ski Area trainer
  • Successful completion of On Snow training by an authorized Mt. Baker Ski Area trainer

Wage & Hour Information:

  • Starting rate begins at $17.13/hour with increases for experience, merit, tenure and future WA State minimum wage adjustments possible.
  • This is a seasonal, variable hour position. Hours per week may vary between 5-40+ hours/week.
  • This position may be eligible to receive a portion of theft-of-service recoveries in accordance with company policy.
  • Expected end date for position is April 18, 2027, unless otherwise approved by management.
Requirements:

General Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work outside in inclement winter weather
  • Bending, twisting, lifting and moving items throughout the day
  • Ability to lift and move 50 pounds (or more depending on task)
  • Standing and or sitting for long periods
  • Climbing and descending stairs
  • Shoveling and moving snow
  • Standing and walking on compact and deep snow and ice
  • Perform repetitive tasks as necessary
