About the role

The GIS Data Engineer will bring technical expertise to lead the advancement of OneEnergy's data systems. This role owns the architecture, pipelines, and automation that turns spatial and tabular data into reliable, well-modeled resources. The role works closely with the Commercial Strategy and GIS teams to support functions across the company including Development, Real Estate, Systems, Engineering, and Finance. Successful candidates will have a demonstrated track record of building data pipelines and architecture, ownership of strategy and systems, and strong communication and project management.

What you'll do

  • Design and maintain PostgreSQL/PostGIS databases and schemas.
  • Develop and maintain ETL/ELT pipelines that ingest, clean, transform, and load geospatial and tabular data from internal systems, ArcGIS, APIs, and external datasets.
  • Provide mentorship, technical guidance, and professional development support to GIS team members.
  • Write and optimize SQL and Python code to automate geoprocessing, data validation, and recurring data workflows.
  • Design data models and table structures that scale.
  • Build and maintain integrations (APIs, views, exports) that make spatial and tabular data available to dashboards, applications, and analytics tools used across the company.
  • Document data architecture, pipeline logic, table schemas, and data lineage.
  • Collaborate with the Commercial Strategy, Development, Systems, Engineering, and Finance teams to translate data needs into scalable, well-engineered solutions.
  • Evaluate and lead decision-making for new tools, technologies, and architectural approaches as data needs grow in volume and complexity.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, GIS, or a related field, or comparable level of professional experience.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in data engineering, database architecture, or a closely related discipline, with a track record of taking technical ownership of a project or system.
  • Strong experience in Python and SQL, with hands-on experience building data pipelines, automation scripts, and geoprocessing workflows.
  • Experience designing and managing a relational SQL database (PostgreSQL or similar); experience with PostGIS, ArcSDE, or similar preferred.
  • Demonstrated mentorship and interpersonal skills, with the ability to coach, mentor, and support the professional growth of GIS team members.
  • Experience designing and building data architecture and ETL/ELT pipelines.
  • Experience with JavaScript mapping applications such as ArcGIS Maps SDK, Mapbox GL JS, Leaflet, OpenLayers, or similar preferred.
  • Experience with server and system architecture is a plus.
  • Experience with Esri’s ArcGIS ecosystem (ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcPy).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Strong attention to detail with a high level of integrity and organizational capacity to manage multiple projects.
  • Experience with project management and leading projects with a small team.
  • Self-motivated with proven ability to take ownership, initiative, and accountability.

Compensation:

Seattle, WA: $124,000 -$155,000 (additional compensation up to $174,000 may be available to candidates with demonstrated experience in people leadership).

OneEnergy’s compensation packages are dependent on an array of factors including, but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, geographic location, and other organizational needs.
