About the RoleThe Data Associate supports the school’s day-to-day data operations by maintaining accurate student information, preparing reports, and helping school leaders and staff access the data they need to make informed decisions.
Working closely with the Student Data Manager and school leadership, the Data Associate helps ensure that student data is accurate, up to date, and organized across school systems. This role is highly detail-oriented and requires someone who can manage recurring data tasks, identify discrepancies, and follow through on issues to resolution.
ResponsibilitiesStudent Data Management
- Maintain accurate student information across school data systems and spreadsheets.
- Enter, update, and verify student data, including enrollment, schedules, grades, attendance, and other academic information.
- Regularly review data for errors or inconsistencies and work with the appropriate staff to resolve issues.
- Support the Student Data Manager with data clean-up and organization.
Data Reporting and Analysis
- Prepare recurring reports on enrollment, attendance, academic progress, and other school data needs.
- Pull and organize data for school leaders, teachers, and network teams.
- Support data tracking and reporting for key school priorities.
- Use Google Sheets or Excel to organize, analyze, and present data in a clear and actionable way.
Administrative and School Support
- Support report card, gradebook, and other academic data processes.
- Assist with student record requests, data audits, and other administrative projects.
- Help maintain organized and accessible data files and documentation.
- Provide timely follow-up on data questions and requests from staff.
- Support special projects and additional data needs as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 1+ year of experience working with data, school operations, administration, or a related field preferred
- Experience working with a student information system or database preferred
- Proficiency with Google Sheets or Excel
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work accurately with large amounts of information
- Relentlessly organized — manages multiple data streams simultaneously without letting anything fall through the cracks
- Clear, timely communicator who turns data into information that families and staff can actually act on
- Proactive and solution-oriented; surfaces problems before they become crises
- Comfortable working across departments and adapting communication style to different audiences
- High integrity around data accuracy — understands that a wrong transcript or a missed flag can change a student’s trajectory
- Calm under pressure during high-volume periods (schedule builds, report card exports, Regents season)
