Job Description

Director, Technical Operations (Platform)

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Technical Operations (Platform) based in Canada.

This is a senior technology leadership role responsible for the operational health, reliability, and performance of revenue-critical digital platforms. You will own the technical operations discipline across reservations, infrastructure, integrations, automation, and production data pipelines. The role combines strategic practice-building with hands-on operational leadership in a complex, transactional environment. You will establish standards for service levels, incident response, change management, observability, disaster recovery, and operational readiness. Working closely with technology, security, vendors, and executive stakeholders, you will turn operational performance and risk into clear business outcomes. You will also lead efforts to improve scalability, automation, cost efficiency, and resilience as the platform and business continue to grow.

Accountabilities:
  • Define, publish, and report service levels and service-level objectives for revenue-critical services, including quoting, booking, payment, and traveller servicing.
  • Lead end-to-end incident management, establishing severity models, escalation procedures, incident command, stakeholder communication, post-incident reviews, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Establish and govern change and release management standards, balancing delivery speed with change quality and failure rates.
  • Build and maintain observability capabilities that provide early detection of service degradation and meaningful operational insight.
  • Own disaster recovery and business continuity planning for critical platform services, ensuring plans are documented, tested, and reviewed on a defined cadence.
  • Monitor third-party integrations, establish failure thresholds and fallback strategies, and maintain a dependency map with operational risks and mitigation plans.
  • Ensure new integrations, products, automation, and data pipelines are operationally ready and reliable in production.
  • Oversee AWS and managed hosting environments, including provisioning, patching, lifecycle management, capacity planning, and seasonal readiness.
  • Establish hosting cost governance through service-level visibility, unit-cost measurement, and continuous optimization targets.
  • Reduce repetitive manual work through automation while improving operational consistency and scalability.
  • Manage relationships with platform, hosting, and integration vendors, defining SLAs, monitoring performance, and holding partners accountable to agreed standards.
  • Reduce operational single points of failure across vendors, systems, processes, and individuals.
  • Partner with security teams on vulnerability management, patch compliance, access controls, audit readiness, and broader operational risk management.
  • Build and maintain a multi-year technical operations roadmap aligned with business growth and technology priorities.
  • Communicate operational performance, risks, capacity needs, and investment priorities clearly to the CTO and executive stakeholders.
Requirements:
  • 8+ years of experience in platform operations, technical operations, infrastructure, site reliability engineering, or a related discipline, including at least 5 years in a leadership or lead capacity.
  • Proven accountability for the availability, reliability, and performance of a revenue-critical transactional platform.
  • Demonstrated experience building an operational practice from the ground up, including SLOs, incident management, change control, observability, and measurable service improvements.
  • Strong hands-on expertise with AWS, including multi-environment operations and cloud cost management.
  • Significant experience operating and governing third-party platforms, suppliers, and integrations, including establishing and enforcing service-level expectations.
  • Ability to define technical and operational standards and successfully drive adoption across multiple teams.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to translate operational performance, technical risk, and investment requirements into clear business language.
  • Experience stabilizing and operationalizing newly introduced systems is preferred.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code and container orchestration is an advantage.
  • AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional or AWS Certified CloudOps Engineer – Associate certification is preferred; AWS Solutions Architect certifications are also welcome.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Benefits:
  • Competitive salary of $150,000–$170,000 CAD, with performance-based incentives.
  • Full-time, permanent position based fully onsite in Toronto, Ontario.
  • Generous paid time off, including three weeks of vacation, six personal days, and a dedicated birthday day off.
  • Opportunities for continuous learning, professional development, and industry-leading training focused on technology and travel innovation.
  • Exclusive travel perks and discounts on worldwide travel experiences.
  • Opportunity to collaborate with diverse teams across multiple international locations and cultures.
  • An inclusive, equal-opportunity environment that values diversity, collaboration, and professional growth.
